This particular fun vehicle, a BMW 635 CSi, was delivered to His Majesty The King's Stable on the 15th of April 1983. Even though the royal stable surely housed many practical cars at the time, one must admit that a coupé was a fresh choice for a family of five, three small and two big ones. Beautiful form and proud vanity. Carl XVI Gustaf, Queen Silvia, Crown Princess Victoria, Prince Carl Philip, and Princess Madeleine traveled in the 635 for a couple of years, traded it in October 1985 and the king eventually received delivery of a more family-friendly, but equally fresh and even stronger, BMW M5 E28. And that's how it's been, so to speak. The M models have been, and are, popular in the royal stable.
The auction car's extra equipment included the Recaro LS Ideal seats of the time. These seats are hot accessories today on the youngtimer scene and in the eighties, they were also an exclusive option in a BMW 635 CSi. The eighties also left behind screw holes for telephone and other radio equipment as well as a typical cassette radio. The driving feel in the engine and gearbox is familiar to anyone who has ever enjoyed BMW's classic straight-six engines.
The second owner bought the car in 1986 and had it for 32 years, but didn't drive much, the latest entry in the service book is from May 2012 and by then the car had driven 211,550 km. Today, the odometer stands at 211,600 km and at the latest approved inspection on 2023-10-05, it was 211,560 km. The car ended up in Glommen, north of Falkenberg, with an officer colleague of the second owner. A request to the Marshal of the Court for a bit more private material for the car's documentation and provenance was fruitless, which one can actually understand. But the car's general documentation is still very nice and pleasant with a complete service book, warranty certificate, tax receipts, two keys, and delivery documents. The current owner, also from Falkenberg, is a well-known collector and dealer of primarily driver-friendly cars with a fine history. This BMW easily qualifies in that league. Patinated in a well-maintained condition with nice documentation, a pleasant original equipment, and as attractive as it is, a sleek vintage BMW coupé. But the value of provenance is to an even greater extent something subjective and for many also worth something particularly special. And provenance, it has."
This text highlights the historical value and the connection of the vehicle to the Swedish Royal Family, as well as its journey through subsequent owners, emphasizing the unique appeal that such provenance adds to a vintage car.
