Desirable 1969 Honda CB750 Sandcast on Bilweb Auctions

The upcoming listing from Bilweb Auctions contains no less than 25 classic motorcycles. Among them is a mint Honda CB750 ”Sandcast”, the most desired of all classic Honda models.

The CB750 is one of the most historically most significant motorcycles ever produced. When it was launched in 1969, it was superior to the competition, regardless if it was English, American or German.

But Honda was far from confident about the CB750 becoming a success. They planned for a very moderate sales figure and wanted to keep production costs down. Therefore they choose sandcasting for the engine blocks instead of the more expensive diecasting.

7414 engine block were sandcastles before Honda realized they had a winner and that the demand were going to be much higher than anticipated. So they switched to diecasting.

A CB750 Sandcast is not different to drive. It doesn’t look different. And it is not extremely rare.
Nevertheless, many Honda enthusiasts are willing to pay twice as much - and more - for a Sandcast compared to a regular CB750. Collectors are always prepared to pay a premium for something significant, something that stands out. In this case it is specifically a Sandcast that is the object of desire, one of the first made of an iconic model.

The CB750 Sandcast that is up for bidding on Bilweb Auctions has frame number 3412, thus produced in the middle of the sandcast series. It has been restored to an absolute mint condition without being a ”trailer queen”, being fully driveable.

It is valued at between 350 000 and 400 000 SEK.
