Record prices were set on the last September listing on Bilweb Auctions - and it was low milage cars that set them. A 1999 Volvo S70 with ultra low 1550 kilometers on the clock went for 270 000 SEK and a 1980 Datsun 280 ZX hit 460 000 SEK
And it is probably the Datsun that raises the most eyebrows, close to half a million SEK is a highly unusual price for a 280 ZX. But: the milage is only 49 000 kilometers and the car is in an untouched original condition with its first paint in superb condition. The market value was estimated at between 190 000 and 220 000 SEK, but the bidders were willing to go much higher. The car will now find a new home in Kuwait.
The ’99 Volvo S70 is virtually a new car that was garaged more or less directly by its first owner. The latest MOT was done in 2002 at 740 kilometers. The most low milage S70 in the world? It was estimated at between 170 000 and 200 000 SEK, but a Volvo collector in Sweden considered it worth significantly more.
So what made these cars go for premium prices? Michael Luft at Bilweb Auctions:
- The law of supply and demand! Such low milage examples of these models are very rare. And if there are a number of bidders that fights about a car, the price is likely to rocket.
- That is a part of the nature of an auction.
