A very rare Nilsson 300 is now up for auction at Bilweb Auctions. This is the car that Volvo never built—a Long Wheel Base S80 with a proper V8 engine and all-wheel drive. The example now being auctioned has low mileage, excellent documentation, and an intriguing history. This is a car that belongs in any serious Volvo collection.
It was delivered brand new from Volvo to Nilsson Special Vehicles in Laholm, where it was modified with a 15 cm extension before being delivered to its first owner as a Nilsson Limousine S80 300. The first and only owner is a Swedish company that is part of an international oil industry group. The car’s primary role has been to comfortably transport the company’s international staff between Arlanda Airport and their conference facility outside Stockholm. It has been exceptionally well maintained and is in outstanding condition.
This model is believed to have been produced in only 16 units, and the car now for sale is number 2 in the series. Only a few of these were equipped with the Yamaha-developed V8 engine, known in Volvo terminology as the B8444S, making it even more special.
Nilsson Special Vehicles specializes in building ambulances, reinforced emergency service vehicles, hearses, and limousines. Interestingly, the largest market for their limousines is the United Kingdom.
