In the 1970s, Toyota Crown was a model pointed at the domestic car market in Japan. The customers was - except for affluent citizens - government officials, the police and companies.
Therefore it represents the car culture in Japan in a different way compared what we are used to. The extravagant design was not intended for European customers, which makes the model extra interesting.
Now there is uniquely well preserved Crown Super Saloon from 1974 for sale at Bilweb Auctions - one out of only five sold in Sweden that year. For two decades it was an exhibition car at a Swedish Toyota dealer, fell out of the register and didn’t get reregistered until 1996.
The milage on the clock, 78 000 kilometers, can therefore be considered to be correct. That is also reflected in the beautiful condition where all original details, down to the smallest emblem, is well kept.
The interior is just as original, where the exclusive light grey upholstery with woven flower vines doesn’t seem to have had too many passengers.
The level of equipment is high for a 1970s Toyota: power windows, central locking, AC and a remotely controlled trunk lid.
Under the hood resides Toyotas reliable 2.6 litre straight six, producing 116 horse power. It is mated to a ”Toyoglide” automatic gearbox.
This Crown Super Saloon gives the driver a feeling of being transferred to Japan fifty years ago, without the European and American influences that the more export oriented models was subject to.
This is a chance to acquire a relatively early and very rare representative for what was to become the Japanese automotive wonder.
The auctions closes on 6 July and the estimated value of the Crown is between 120 000 and 150 000 SEK.
