"Low-mileage" – a magical word that makes the eyes of many enthusiasts sparkle.
This week's auction at Bilweb Auctions features an unusually large number of classics with low numbers on the odometer.
How about an '80s Opel Kadett with just 15,000 kilometers? Or Miss Nilsson's 1975 Golf with 80,000 kilometers?
There can be many reasons why a car has been driven very little over a long period of time. One of the most common is that it was purchased by an older person, often of retirement age, who didn't need or want to drive much but took meticulous care of their vehicle.
Ingeborg Nilsson from Jönköping was only 57 years old when she bought her green Golf from the city's Volkswagen dealer, Atteviks, in the summer of 1975. Just a year had passed since the model's premiere in Munich, so she was likely among the first to own a Golf in HV71's hometown.
The car was rarely driven to work at the police department and only in good weather. When she sold it after almost 20 years, the odometer barely read 70,000 kilometers, and since then, only an additional 10,000 have been added. Now, one of the country's finest original Golfs is being sold with an estimated value of between 120,000 and 140,000 SEK.
Compared to the 1988 Opel Kadett in this week's auction, Miss Nilsson's Golf has actually covered quite a distance. This Kadett has only traveled 15,000 kilometers, lovingly maintained by a series of Opel enthusiasts, and is naturally in near-mint condition. Estimated value: 65,000 – 75,000 SEK.
Volvo’s 4.4-liter V8 engine is considered one of the best the company has ever produced. An S80 that has only covered 50,000 kilometers is extremely rare, yet one such example is available at Bilweb Auctions – a 2007 model first used during the EU summit in Gothenburg in 2006. Expected to sell for well over 300,000 SEK.
And here are the rest of the cars with less than 100,000 kilometers on the clock in the auction closing on November 14:
