The Mercedes E 500 was called the "super-sport sedan" and "wolf in sheep's clothing" when it arrived in 1993. The model was hand-built at Porsche and was one of the 90's fastest sedan cars. Now it’s soon up for auction.
- Only a few cars of this model came to Sweden. This car is from 1993 and is in great condition with only 167 000 kilometers on the clock. We value it at SEK330-380 000, says Michael Luft, CEO on Bilweb Auctions.
The Mercedes E 500 was one of the fastest sedan-cars of the nineties. Porsche developed the chassis for optimal road holding matching the potent 32-liter V8 with 322hp. The model was built in a limited edition by hand at the Porsche factory and each car took 18 days to build. No wonder the price tag was juicy - DM 145,000 in Germany and over $ 81,000 in the US during the mid-90s.
- The price-tag and a no show of profile made the customer list a bit limited. After all, it was only the front wings that revealed what was under the hood, Michael Luft explains
However, the standard equipment included all you could wish at the time; automatic gearbox, ACC, electric sport seats (Recaro), cruise control, sun blinds, roof hatch, full leather with ventilated seats, center armrest, telephone, airbag, stereo and sports chassis.
Facts: The Mercedes 500 E (E 500 from 1993) was called the "super-sports sedan" in the United States. The car was built in a limited edition between 1990 and 1995 with a total of 10,479 cars. The limited series of cars made the model a classic already when it was launched.
