Åke Andersson of Enhörna, outside Södertälje, has made classic cars a way of life throughout his adult years. For more than 50 years, he has been a well-known figure in Sweden’s historic motoring community.
Ferraris, Bentleys and Aston Martins have all passed through his collections over the years, but he has now decided that the time has come to reduce the size of his collection.
Twelve cars will be offered for sale through Bilweb Auctions, with a particular focus on British cars from the 1930s, 1940s and 1950s.
Åke’s garage is more reminiscent of a living room, with the cars forming the centrepiece of the décor. Elegant rugs cover the floors and an abundance of automobilia reinforces the impression of a man with a lifelong passion for historic vehicles.
All of the cars now being offered are in very fine condition and have been meticulously cared for, even though they have not been driven extensively in recent years.
Two cars stand out in particular. The first is a 1933 MG J2 Midget with a well-documented Swedish history dating back to January 1934, when it was registered in Vårby outside Stockholm.
Between 1972 and 1986, it was restored by another prominent figure in the classic car world: historian and author Björn-Eric Lindh. He also compiled detailed documentation of the MG’s history.
The car joined Åke Andersson’s collection in 1993 and is a wonderful example of a British sports car from the 1930s.
Another British open-top car from the 1930s is the extremely rare and highly charming 1939 Morris 8 Tourer. It was produced for only six months; when the Second World War broke out in September, production came to an end.
It is believed that only 15 examples remain worldwide, just six of them in its home country of England. The auction car is, in all likelihood, the only example in Sweden.
The Andersson collection also includes another five MGs, two Morris cars, an Austin, a 1950s Volkswagen, and a Danish-built Ford Model A.
The auction closes on Wednesday, 26 August.
