A rare opportunity has emerged for Saab enthusiasts and collectors: a 1964 Saab 96, equipped with a factory-built, race-tuned engine from Saab’s competition department.
This particular car boasts a rich history, as the owner’s family has been deeply involved with Saab since the 1960s. The father was a leading engineer within the company and contributed to the design and development of the car. The most remarkable feature of this Saab 96 is its unique racing engine, which has previously been used in competition settings and was even driven by Saab on Nürburgring.
The engine, developed and built by Saab’s racing division, is equipped with Lancia carburetors, a separate oil pump, and a custom-built race exhaust system. In the late 1990s, the car underwent a complete restoration, which was finalized with the installation of the factory racing department’s side-mounted exhaust system, similar to the one used during Nürburgring events.
Over the past 25 years, the car has primarily been used for gatherings and events, including participating in protests against GM before Saab’s bankruptcy. This car is well known among Saab enthusiasts in the Trollhättan area.
This Saab 96 represents a unique piece of Swedish automotive history, offering a rare opportunity for collectors to acquire a vehicle of both cultural and technical significance.
