Classic lines and modern technology – now one of the cars that was part of an extensive project to create a Volvo P1800 for the 2020s is up for sale. Huge sums have already been invested—a golden starting point for the next owner!
Restomod is a genre in the car community that is gaining increasing traction. Finding the balance between a modern car’s performance and reliability and the charm of a classic car is not easy—but whoever succeeds ends up with a vehicle that is both enjoyable to drive over long distances and fun to arrive in.
At Bilweb Auctions’ large Volvo auction, which ends on June 5, there’s a chance to bid on a Volvo 1800E in which significant funds have been spent to achieve a modern road presence and improved drivability.
The car was part of a secret project aimed at producing a small series of Volvo P1800s with modern driving characteristics and refurbished original bodies. This example has been used by a British specialist for chassis development and has been fitted with a modified front axle featuring rack-and-pinion steering and custom-made Öhlins shock absorbers. The car has received electric power steering, upgraded fuel injection, new brakes, and much more. The modern 17-inch wheels are the only visible clue on the outside that this is a sleeper.
Even in its current condition, the car is extremely well balanced and fun to drive, providing a very solid foundation to build on. Whoever picks up the baton can take advantage of the more than one million SEK already invested in the car and focus on the final touches.
The car was sold new in California and arrived in Sweden in 2021. A fun detail to mention—if things get quiet at a car meet—is that this sports Volvo was loaned for a time to actor Peter Stormare!
Bilweb Auctions has established itself as the leading channel for brokering classic cars in Sweden, with around a thousand auction cars each year. The security provided by specially appointed inspectors and a transparent process for both buyers and sellers has proven highly successful. The special auction featuring roughly 40 classic Volvo models ends on June 5, and the bidding is in full swing.
