Leyland Mini 1000 MKIII 998cc — 1977

One might call this Mini a low-mileage vehicle since it has only clocked just over 40,000 kilometers since new. Good starting condition for someone who wants a usable Mini.

"A Mini worth putting effort into."

Description

This classic Mini was purchased by the current owner's aunt from ScanAuto in 1979, and he eventually inherited the Mini in 2012. According to him, the car has only driven the miles shown on the odometer, which is corroborated by the vehicle inspection reports that accompany the car. The Mini received a rustproofing treatment (Tuff-Kote Dinol) sometime during 1989-1990 in Rönninge. Included with the car is a new clutch disc and a seal for the flywheel, which should be replaced as the owner notes some issues with the clutch after driving for a while. The air pump for emission control has been removed and is included with the Mini separately. The car has its original paint and original upholstery in good condition, and with a little care, polishing, and inspection, it is time for the Mini to hit the roads again.

Condition

  • Mechanical condition:

The car is deregistered and was not driven on the road at the time of photography. The engine works, and so does the transmission, but the car needs a start-up service and a general overhaul of most parts. Older tires with good tread depth.

  • Interior condition:

The interior is in normal condition for use, with some loose fabric on the seats. Dirty floor mats. The headliner is clean and intact.

  • Exterior condition:

It looks like the car is covered in its original paint, and this is in a condition that corresponds to the Mini's age. What is hard to see in the pictures is that the car has a number of minor dents. There is some surface rust, and the chrome work is in a slightly worn condition. The car looks good underneath.

  • General condition:

A classic Mini in nice condition. These are usually much rustier than this one. It has even held up well against serious rust under the floor mats. Startup, service, inspection, and maintenance - then you have a pleasant, road-ready Mini to use.

Facts about the model

Alec Issigonis, who had designed the highly acclaimed Morris Minor, was tasked in the wake of the Suez Crisis with creating a fuel-efficient small car. Issigonis was a functionalist. Nothing unnecessary was to be included in the new design. The guiding principle was to achieve the maximum interior space within the smallest possible footprint. Therefore, the engine was transversely mounted with the gearbox installed underneath to save space. The tailgate was designed to fold downwards to be used as additional cargo space. With a bit of goodwill, four adults could travel in a reasonably comfortable manner. The Mini first appeared in 1959 and was produced by BMC from 1959 to 1969, Leyland from 1969 to 1984, and subsequently by the Rover Group up until 2000. After that, production of the original model ceased. However, it lives on in a new form, through BMW.
