A pair of noble British twins, but with very different characters, adds an aura of luxury to the last Bilweb Auction listing before the summer break. The one more sophisticated is a Rolls Royce Silver Spur, the more aggressive one is a Bentley Turbo R.
They are basically identical twins and builds on the Rolls Royce model introduced in 1980, the Silver Spirit. The long wheel base model was christened Silver Spur and 10 cm of space was added in the back seat.
The Silver Spur now on the Bilweb Auction listing for 30 June is of model year 1982 and has a V8 of 6,75 litres and 210 horsepower. It was originally sold in Illinois, USA, and imported to Sweden in 1990. Since 1992 it has been a part of a collection and used very sparingly. The odometer therefore shows just 76 000 kilometers.
The elegance is enhanced by the two tone paint in blue, the black vinyl roof and the blue leather upholstery. The shiny metal is in rust free steel.
Bilweb Auctions has estimated the value of the Silver Spur to between 160 000 and 200 000 SEK, a modest price for the chance to be a part of the story of the ultimate luxury brand: Rolls Royce.
Bentley and Rolls Royce had the same owner from 1921 and the former brand was positioned as the sportier car with more power under the hood.
This is highly relevant for the Bentley Turbo R from 1992 that has been a part of the same car collection as its brother from Rolls Royce. The same 6,75 litre V8 produces the power, but with the help of turbo charging 320 horsepower kicks in, 50 percent more than in the Rolls Royce.
That moves the 2,4 tonne heavy car from a standstill to 100 km/h in just below 7 seconds and gives it a top speed of around 230 km/h. To handle the power the Turbo R got a 50 percent stiffer chassis compared with its Rolls Royce sibling. - hence the R in the name: Roadholding.
Also the Bentley is a LWB, the odometer tells us 106 000 kilometers and the value is estimated to between 170 000 and 220 000 SEK.
