Sold new in Sweden, unrestored, two owners within the same family. These are some of the ingredients in the mix that makes this 1968 Pontiac LeMans so unique.
On 16 February in the mythical year of 1968, Alfred Edvard Jucker bought his new Pontiac LeMans in elegant Alpine Blue metallic from Motorami in Stockholm, a GM retailer also selling Chevrolet and Opel. He had owned several American cars since the mid-Fifties and now he traded in his Chevy Impala for the 2-door coupe with a 5.7 litre V8. Very few Pontiac LeMans was imported to Sweden by General Motors Nordiska AB that year.
In 1977 mr Jucker moved to Switzerland and he was obviously very attached to his LeMans, because he brought it with him. The ”CH” oval Swiss country sticker on the rear bumper and meticulously kept service notes in German bear witness about the time in the Alp country. When mr Jucker passed away, the Pontiac was taken back to Sweden by his son. That was in 2002 and since then it has been carefully taken care of. Now, 55 years after that day in February 1968 it will leave the Jucker family through Bilweb Auctions.
During all these years very little has changed on the car. It has acquired some patina, a few dents, surface rust on a fender edge, stone chips from 1970:s gravel. These imperfections, however, enhances the car´s authenticity, the unique fact that it has never been restored or rebuilt, just well cared for by owners that has been very fond of their car during its 110 000 kilometers on the road.
A number of details that adds to the authentic feeling is still there: the early Swedish number plates, the Blaupunkt radio, the two point safety belts, the spare tyre with an American Eagle tyre, the invoice from 1968, the rear mud flaps with the GM logo. Opening the trunk is like getting into a treasury: card boxes with documentation, an old towing rope, a German Autosol can and a Philips Troublelite emergency lamp, probably from the Fifties. And much more.
The 1968 LeMans was the third generation of Pontiac’s mid-size car. Originally LeMans was a trim level on the Pontiac Tempest, until it became a model of its own. The muscle car version from the late Sixties, the legendary Pontiac GTO, shared it body with the LeMans, but offered much more power.
This time capsule, representing both the US and Sweden of the Sixties, is by Bilweb Auctions valued to between 190 000 and 220 000 SEK. The auction closes on 2 February.
