When Bilweb Auctions on September 16 carries out its 35h web based classic car auction, the Mercedes focus is obvious. Every fifth car on the auction list is from Stuttgart. Among them is one of the most sought-after Mercedes classics: a 230 SL from 1967, the “Pagoda”. It got its nickname due to the design of its hardtop, the detachable roof, that was considered looking like a buddhist temple, a pagoda! The SL:s Sixties elegance makes it a dream for enthusiasts worldwide.

Another exciting Mercedes in the auction line up is an SL 600 from 1994 with a V12 engine. And as if the original engine volume of 5 liters wasn´t enough, a previous owner had it bored to 7,2 liters at one of Germany´s most prominent Mercedes tuners, Väth Motorentechnik.

One of those who was seduced by the Mercedes SL:s of the 1990:s was Princess Diana, who chocked the nation by trading her Jaguar for the German star in 1991.

Quite a few of the Mercedes cars in the upcoming auction is from the 1980:s and 1990:s. In Germany these newer classics is being called “youngtimers”, contrary to the older “oldtimers”.

-       An increasing number of classic car enthusiasts, especially younger ones, appreciates the comfort and reliability of youngtimers. These cars are old enough to stand out from the crowd and make a personal statement, but modern enough to be daily drivers and keep up with today´s traffic, says Michael Luft at Bilweb Auctions.

A few more Mercedes “youngtimers” in the auction:

-       1997 S 500 Coupe

-       1992 500 SL

-       1992 500 SEL

-       1987 420 SEL

Those who thinks these cars a far too modern can bid on a 1956 Mercedes 219, belonging to the same family since new, for 65 years!
