Few cars represents the styling frenzy of the 1980s like the dp-Porsches. One of these exclusive design icons is now for sale on Bilweb Auctions: a wild Porsche 928.
In 1987 a proud and excited customer picked up his 1982 Porsche 928 in Hassleholm, Sweden. There it had been restyled and tuned by dp-Zirkelbach, a firm specializing on advanced and exclusive Porsche modifications, mainly of 911:s, but also an occasional 928. Josef Zirkelbach had customers as far away as the US and had delivered a restyled 911 to the successful tv-show Miami Vice.
The red 928 had received a new wedge shaped front with four rectangular headlamps. The rear also looked very different from a standard 928, with an air duct for a more effective air flow under the car.
The windshield was enlarged and dramatically angled backwards, fenders and hood extended up against it for improved cW. Dramatic gills in doors and in the hood was also a given on a dp-Porsche. Driving dynamics were enhanced through a stiffer chassis and gas-pressure shock absorbers from Bilstein.
The end result was a Porsche 928 unparalleled in Sweden.
Since then the car has been updated with a more potent engine from a GTS, the last version of the 928 that was made as model year 1995 only in less than 3000 examples. The GTS V8 had a displacement of 5,4 liters and developed 349 horsepower. The brakes were upgraded to match the higher power output.
The dp-Zirkelbach restyling from the 1980:s was of outstanding quality and definitely stands the test of time. It has never been restored and is a fantastic symbol for this styling period.
The auctions closes on 13 October and Bilweb Auctions estimates the value of the car to between 420 000 and 450 000 SEK.
