Bilweb Auctions continues to be the marketplace for Sweden's finest A-Fords. A few weeks ago, 8 beautifully restored "Model A" cars were sold, and now it's time for an incredibly fine cabriolet from 1931.
"Pre-war cars have experienced a renaissance among younger enthusiasts," notes Bilweb Auctions inspector Peter Sundfeldt. And it's not difficult—regardless of age—to get enthusiastic about this charming car from the 1930s in yellow and black—a soon-to-be hundred-year-old gem.
The car's first Swedish registration is dated 1998, but it is highly likely that it was sold new in Sweden and existed in the old vehicle register before 1972. This could be an exciting research project for a new owner. It was carefully restored over 20 years ago and has maintained its fantastic condition: the paint, interior, and mechanics are reportedly better than when it first rolled out of the factory.
The impression is enhanced by the very elegant black leather trunk placed on a shelf above the rear bumper, as well as the small foldable rear seat, often nicknamed after the wife’s mother.
In American English, the seat is called a "rumble seat," while in England it’s known as a "dickey seat." Both terms refer to the same concept from the era of horse-drawn carriages: a seat outside the main carriage where servants sat, so the upper-class passengers wouldn't have to mingle with them.
In short: a very beautiful Model A cabriolet from 1930s Detroit, ready to be used and displayed to an admiring world. Bilweb Auctions has valued the car between 200,000 and 250,000 SEK, and the auction ends on September 12.
