Description

Studebaker 259 V8, 4.6 liters, 170 hp, 3-speed manual gearbox with overdrive. (Borg-Warner). Free wheel. Matching numbers. Original Phillips radio (out of function). Strato Blue with white hood.

The car was built in Canada, and with Studebaker's own V8 engine. Only 702 Daytona Convertibles were manufactured. Of these, 13 were exported. This is one of these 13 export cars and was sold new in Rotterdam, the Netherlands, in July 1964.
The car has had only three users / owners. It was sold new in July 1964 to W. A. ??van der Velden who kept the car for 40 years. In 2004, the car owner changed to Leo Engels, living some five miles east of van der Velden. Purchase contracts from 1964, various documents from the Netherlands included, as well as instruction manual and original service booklet from 1964.

In 2011, the car was purchased by the Finnish Studebaker collector Pekka Polvinen who never registered the car in Finland. The current owner, Mikael Stjerna, bought the car in Finland in November 2015, still with Dutch registration plates. In Finland, however, the brakes had been renovated.

Facts about the model

In 1964 Studebaker's small model series Lark received a major update. The front was tightened, the rear was modernized. The grill was of horizontal type with double headlights. To manifest that it is a new model, it is no longer sold as Lark, but instead as Studebaker Daytona. The convertible version production begins on August 8, 1963. Before Christmas, on December 19, Studebaker closes the factory in South Bend, USA and concentrates all production to the factory in Canada. On July 9, 1964, the last Daytona Convertible is produced in Canada. Canada also switches from using its own Studebaker engines to purchasing Chevrolet engines.
The very auction car is built in Canada and features a genuine 259 Studebaker V8, rated by Hemmings for the most reliable American V8 manufactured. A total of 702 cars are being built, of which 416 in the US and 286 in Canada. It will be the last open Studebaker model manufactured. In 1966 Studebaker ceased its manufacturing of cars.
