Ford 46 Pickup Hot Rod V8 — 1933

Lovely 70s Hot Rod that was a project car for a well-known magazine in the USA before it came to Sweden in the 1970s. Largely in the same design and condition as when it was built. One owner in Sweden and sparingly driven.

"Ford Model 46, also known as the B-Ford, was built between 1932 and 1934. Virtually all body types have become popular as Hot Rod builds. The Pickup in particular is well liked and has a bold character. This one is nicely built in the style and design that was popular in the 1970s. Everything looks well-made and period-correct. Since it has been driven little, it would be wise to give it an inspection and service, as well as a careful recommissioning."

Description

This car has its background in the USA. Reportedly, it was a project car for the well-known magazine Popular Hot Rodding in the US during the mid-70s. It appeared on the cover in October 1975. On April 4, 1978, it was registered to its first and only owner here in Sweden. On June 6, 1983, it was registered for road use. Over the years, it was sparingly driven and was more the owner’s hobby project and prized possession, and for many years it was stored in his garage in Småland. He had it repainted/removed the flame graphics. The engine was rebuilt about 30 years ago and has hardly been driven since. However, it was started and driven for short runs at regular intervals, the last time being two years ago. Rebuilt vehicle with a newer engine and transmission, in line with the 'Hot Rod' concept. According to the registration certificate: T12B Rebuilt vehicle, T71K Front track width 1590 mm, T71L Rear track width 1550 mm. Engine: Chevrolet 350 V8. Rear axle: Oldsmobile shortened rear axle. Front brakes: Ford Mustang disc brakes. Rear brakes: Oldsmobile drums.

Condition

  • Mechanical condition:

The engine has been rebuilt and is supercharged. According to a colleague of the owner, it was driven a couple of years ago and ran well, with everything functioning as expected. It has not been started or test-driven by us. The undercarriage is in good condition with no damage.

  • Interior condition:

Classic Rod interior in good condition from the 1970s rebuild.

  • Exterior condition:

Nice and glossy paintwork, though slightly dusty from storage. Fine chrome details and the rest of the equipment in the same condition. Good wheels and tires, though the age of the tires is uncertain. Nice bed with cover.

  • General condition:

Fords from the early 1930s in Hot Rod form are highly sought after, and this well-built car with its interesting history and fine condition is no exception. Sparingly driven but always well cared for and invested in, it is a historically interesting enthusiast vehicle within the Hot Rod niche.

Facts about the model

Already in the early days of the automobile, manufacturers offered their own solutions for utility vehicles or chassis on which others could build. In 1917, Ford developed a reinforced version of the Model T, called the TT, which could be fitted with various transport solutions. When the Model A arrived in 1927, there were utility versions such as the Pickup based on the passenger car Model A, as well as the truck version now called AA. In 1932, the new Ford Model 46, designated Model B, was introduced along with the truck version designated BB. Both versions were offered with a 4-cylinder engine as well as the new flathead V8. These were produced from 1932 to 1934, with manufacturing taking place worldwide.

The 1932–1934 Model B soon became a popular subject for modifications as the Hot Rod era took root and developed—this included the Pickup versions as well.
