"Gives you goosebumps, sounds extremely sharp."

Description

The current owner purchased this Saab in 2011 from Gunnar Fredriksson. At the time, the car was disassembled, and the body had been fully sandblasted. Since then, a complete restoration has been carried out. The Saab received a new paint job in 2015, and at the same time, it was equipped with a newly built 1840 cc engine, which had only been test-driven in a sprint competition. The engine is fitted with NOS cross-flow intake with dual Weber 45s and dual-exhaust heads. It also has an unsynchronized gearbox with 6.35 spec 2, machined football wheels, and new D2 Mack tires. The Saab was outfitted with new seats and belts. Most parts of the car have been replaced, and many components are new, including brake discs, spindles, calipers, brake hoses, rear brake cylinders, brake shoes, and pads, along with several other upgrades. The Saab looks spot-on and sounds extremely sharp and powerful. An older car logbook is included with the vehicle.

Facts about the model

Compared to its predecessor, the Saab 96 featured a larger and more powerful engine, a new rear end with a bigger rear window, a new instrument panel, a more spacious trunk, and a roomier rear seat that made the car a five-seater. In 1965, the car received a "facelift" with a more modern front design, and the front end was extended to accommodate a larger engine.

A 1.2-liter inline four-cylinder engine was in development, but Saab opted to use the Ford V4 engine (also found in the Taunus 15M). The V4 engine was introduced in the 1967 model year, allowing Saab to continue sales after a sales crisis due to the outdated two-stroke engine. However, the two-stroke engine remained an option until 1968 when it was completely replaced by the V4 engine. One legacy from the two-stroke engine era was that all 96s had a freewheel mechanism, introduced to protect the two-stroke engines from damage caused by engine braking. Since the engine continued to rotate without fuel supply and didn't get proper lubrication (as oil was mixed with fuel), the freewheel feature was valuable. With the V4 engine, the need for a freewheel was eliminated, but many drivers appreciated the ability to shift without using the clutch pedal.

In addition to the standard model, Saab also produced more luxurious and sporty versions intended primarily for export: Granturismo 750 (1960-61), Sport (1962-1965), and Monte Carlo 850 (1964-1968).
