Description

We sold this car four years ago to a car collector who had it in his collection but now wants to downsize. The car was imported to Sweden in 1999 and most likely came from Italy. It spent the majority of its Swedish life in the south of Sweden and was also owned by the Autoseum car museum in Simrishamn. The engine runs and the transmission is fine, but the brakes, as well as a full service and general inspection, will be required. The mileage of 46547 km cannot be confirmed, but the car has not been driven much in the last 20 years, and the last inspection in 2013 was with the mileage of 46430 km.

Condition

  • Mechanical condition:

Following a simple start service, the car is now operational and driveable. It will require a thorough service, technical review, and brake inspection. The last inspection/MOT was in 2013, so it will require one more. A newer battery was installed, as well as a new spare wheel. Good tyre and wheels.

  • Interior condition:

The interior is complete with good rubber floor mats, with the exception of a rip in the seam of the passenger seat (see pictures). Good door cards and cabriolet roof with a very small hole. The wooden plastic trim on the glove box lid has started to lift.

  • Exterior condition:

The yellow paintwork is in good condition and was probably repainted 20+ years ago. There is some rust on the door edges, front and right valance, and under the rear valance and enginebay floor. The body work is straight, but the door needs to be adjusted because it is not closing properly. Underbody has older welding work and rust all around the rear wheel arch "See pictures".

  • General condition:

Cool summer car in need of some service work and rust repair before it can pass its final inspection/MOT.

Facts about the model

Fiat 850 was manufactured between 1964 and 1972. The model was also manufactured on license by Seat in Spain. The engine became a real "long rider" and was in Seat Marabella in the 1990s. At Fiat, it disappeared in 1985 when the Fire Engine came. Together with the coupé, the open 850 Spider was introduced at Geneva Hall in 1965. The body was designed and built by Bertone. In the Spider the engine gave 49 hp. In March 1968, it was replaced by the 850 Sport Spider, with modified front and larger engine. A curiosity is that the engine in the Fiat 850 rotates counterclockwise, while almost all other car engines spin clockwise. The production of Spider ended in 1972 after 124,660 copies
