"Load a vintage car on the flatbed and you have one of Sweden's most eye-catching crews to go to an exhibition with."

Description

The truck is a 1962 model, but it was not sold until two years later to a small company in Grängesberg, who took it on with joy, as it remained in use until the 90s.

The reason why a few petrol-powered cars were imported to Sweden was that the fire authorities preferred that type of engine in their emergency vehicles.
In this particular example, the flatbed was built by a local and unknown builder and delivered to Mr Fritz Danielsson's company in Saxdalen Grängesberg.
The view from the cab is fantastic thanks to all the windows facing different directions.
This may be why the truck has survived well from damage that work vehicles normally receive during working life. The car has never been out of service and the next owner who restored the truck did so thoroughly.

The engine was overhauled and gaskets were changed. The flap was replaced as it was in poor condition. Bumpers and wings were pressed in and aligned. The floor was replaced as it was rusty. The renovation took two years and everything was repainted. It has been used sparingly since the 90s but participated in the heavy rally in Södertälje ten times and did this with flying colours without any problems.

Owner number two has now reached the age of 90 and is done with large vehicles. Since the truck has only driven just over 70,000 km, 30 more years in traffic should not be a problem. The truck was recently driven 75 km at a good speed, between 70-90 km/h and it was discovered during the trip that the temperature sensor stopped working. Could be a contact fault because the engine temperature was good despite being close to 30 degrees in the air. Before the inspection, the truck needs to be serviced according to the accompanying instruction manual.

Oil change and allround lubrication are also recommended and the speedometer cable should be dismantled and lubricated with grease. The carburettor probably also needs to be cleaned. As for the engine, it is the big six of nearly 100 hp that was developed for the Sheerline and Princess limousines. It was found to be suitable as an alternative to diesel in some markets in Europe. The truck is in fantastic condition, however, it was repainted in the early 90s in a different colour than the original grey shade it had on delivery.

An interesting detail about the Austin is that it still has a technical solution from the 10-20s, namely a centrally located gas pedal. The standard option for this truck was a 4-cylinder petrol-powered engine but as in this case, it could be fitted with a 6-cylinder engine. Due to the size of the six, the gas pedal was moved to the middle, between the clutch and the brake pedal, because it wouldn't fit on the right.
