"A young sports car enthusiast bought the car when it was eleven years old. After a few years on the roads, it was time for a restoration. Like for so many others, work, family, and other things came in the way. Nevertheless, the car was kept throughout the years, with the hope that someday... Unfortunately, that didn't happen, and now someone else will take over."

Description

The car was registered and type-approved in Sweden in May 1960. AB Scania Vabis certified that the vehicle complied with the type requirements. In August 1967, it was registered in Södermanland County and received the registration number D74681. Previously, it had been registered in Stockholm with the registration number A92871. In June 1971, it had a new owner in Södermanland, who owned the car until October 2015, when his son took over the car. The car was inspected and approved most recently in May 1972. During the 1970s, it was disassembled, and a renovation was started, but other matters came in the way. It has been stored in various garages/barns over the years. It is likely complete in essential parts, but some details may have been lost over the years. According to the color code, the car was originally black but was repainted in yellow, later with rust protection paint. The beige interior is probably original. The entire engine or parts of it have likely been replaced, according to information regarding the engine number.

Facts about the model

After Ferdinand Porsche was imprisoned in France after World War II, his son Ferry Porsche took on the task of keeping Porsche alive. Towards the end of the war, the company had relocated from Stuttgart, Germany to Gmünd, Austria. Slowly, they resumed operations after the war and managed to assemble 49 cars in Austria before moving back to Stuttgart. The new model, the Porsche 356, began production at its home base, with the bodies manufactured by a company on the same premises called Reutter, which later became a part of Porsche in 1963.

From 1948 to 1955, the Porsche 356 model was built with steady updates and improvements. In October, an update brought a larger engine, now 1600 cc, a curved windshield without a center pillar, improved handling characteristics, a new dashboard, a foldable rear seat for increased luggage capacity, and more. This version was called the 356 A, marking the continuation of the model's development. In 1958, the exhaust pipes were routed through the bumper guards. In September 1959, the 356 B was introduced with a new front featuring higher positioned headlights and bumpers, ventilation windows in the front doors, lower seats for improved headroom, and a split-folding rear seat. The various versions included the Normal with 60 hp, Super with 75 hp, and a completely new Super 90 with 90 hp. All of these used the same 1600 cc engine as the base, but with different compression ratios. As an extra touch, the Carrera GT was offered with dual overhead camshafts, delivering 115 hp. From 1963 to 1965, there was a significant update with the model 356 C, but that's another story. The 356 B model was produced in just under 31,000 units, accounting for about 40% of the total production of 356 models, which reached nearly 77,000 units.
