Condition

  • Mechanical condition:

Starts and runs well in both engine and gearbox. Electrical functions such as lighting and horn are working, while the heater unit, which was not factory standard, has not been tested. Serviced in 2024 and has since been driven 1,000 km. The trafficators are functional, but for increased safety the car is also equipped with indicators and brake lights, which were not originally fitted. A fuel shut-off valve is also an addition to the original specification. The fuel gauge works in reverse, showing empty when the tank is full and vice versa.

  • Interior condition:

The interior was reupholstered during the restoration carried out by the previous owner. Whether the choice of fabric and materials for the door panels matches the original is unknown, but the upholstery and panels are in good condition and fit the car well. The rubber seals are not original. The window regulator on the right rear door is not working.

  • Exterior condition:

Repainted around 10–15 years ago, and the paint has retained its shine well. However, there are a couple of runs, and over time some scratches have also appeared. The rear side windows have a somewhat unsightly sealing. The rear fenders are missing a rubber trim. Some of the chrome strips have dents. A couple of door handles have been replaced and are not original, but they function properly. The lock on the driver’s door has been removed.

  • General condition:

One of the very few remaining Swedish-sold Skoda 1102s. The car is in good restored condition, although there are a few minor cosmetic details that could be improved.

Facts about the model

Skoda has a long history and was, in the days of the Austro-Hungarian Empire, one of the most important industrial groups. In 1925, the car manufacturer Laurin & Klement, based in Mladá Boleslav, was taken over by Skoda. To this day, Skoda’s headquarters remain in Mladá Boleslav.

In 1937, an overhead-valve engine was introduced in the Popular model. After World War II, production of the Skoda 1101 began – an updated version of the Popular, featuring more integrated front fenders and a new instrument panel. After the Czechoslovak Communist Party came to power, Skoda was nationalized in 1948.

In 1949, the Skoda 1102 was introduced as a version of the 1101 with a column-mounted gearshift. The Skoda 1101/1102 featured a front-mounted engine and rear-wheel drive, with independent suspension both front and rear. The four-speed gearbox had unsynchronized first and second gears. The engine was a 1,089 cc water-cooled four-cylinder producing 32 hp at 4,000 rpm, giving a top speed of 100 km/h.

The models were available in a wide range of body styles, including a two-door cabriolet and an ambulance version. Between 1946 and 1952, a total of 71,591 units are believed to have been built. In Sweden, Skoda was imported by ANA in Nyköping, and according to the AHK member magazine Autohistorica, 2,582 Skodas were registered in Sweden between 1946 and 1952.
