"A hardcore object for the enthusiast, and just image when the renovation is over and you may screw on the registration plates from 1973 on a restored 92 from 1950. Nice. If it stays in Sweden."

Description

It appears to have been sold as new in Norrland, Sweden, but found its way to Karlskoga already in 1958. With information from the Swedish National Archives, more detailed research can certainly be done on its history. In any case, it was assigned a new registration number when the new computerized registry was put into use in 1972-73. A set of new plates from 1973 is preserved in the original box. The car is sold by the current owner who has taken it over from his father who was a great SAAB enthusiast. The car has been housed in the current owner's garage for over 30 years.

Condition

  • Mechanical condition:

Two engines and a transmission is included. Not the original engine.

  • Interior condition:

Seats and rear seats, as well as a specifically woven cloth piece in the original pattern, are available. The remainder of the interior has also been conserved for use as templates and patterns.

  • Exterior condition:

New headliner, new floor and beams, and new doors. The floor has almost completely rotted away. The wheels are of the newer V4 variety, and the car rolls easily on inflated old tires.

  • General condition:

A early "Trollhättan" product in a rough but sensible basic condition with all the old aircraft factory feeling. Good history and nice spare parts.

Facts about the model

These early Saabs are full of aviation genes. Since Saab was originally a company that produced airplanes, engineers and ideas from the aviation side were brought in. With good aerodynamics, a large and heavy engine with lots of horsepower is not necessary.

With a small and light engine with fewer horsepower, the driving characteristics became just as good, if not even better. The concept proved to be valid with some modernizations until 1980. The main designer and driving force behind the project was Gunnar Ljungström. Sixten Sason was responsible for the design. Sason, who incidentally has an impressive list of successful designs in his portfolio.
