"Original paint and rust-free body thanks to its dry-state history. Fully rebuilt engine, drivetrain, brakes, and electrics, along with a new soft top and interior. Drives exceptionally well. Honest patina with a few small dents—only original once."

Description

Originally sold in California to its first lady owner, with a photo of her with the car before it was sent to Sweden. Imported in summer 2025 and registered in December 2025, the current owner carried out a big renovation but chose to keep the original paintwork and patina.

Mechanically, the car has undergone a comprehensive rebuild. The engine and drivetrain have been fully renovated, including internal engine work, upgraded components, and refreshed ancillaries. The car runs well with good oil pressure and smooth operation throughout.

Interior has been renewed in leather, and a new soft top has been fitted. Rubber seals around the windscreen, doors, boot, and hood have also been replaced.

Overall, a structurally strong BJ7 with an honest, original exterior finish.

The 3000 Mk II BJ7, introduced in 1962, marked a major step forward for the Healey. It gained a wraparound windscreen for a more modern look, proper wind-up windows with quarter vents for improved comfort, and a practical, quick-folding soft top.

Under the bonnet sits a 2.9-litre inline-six producing around 134 hp, fed by twin SU carburettors. Compared to the earlier triple-carb setup, this offers smoother low-speed drivability and easier maintenance. A revised camshaft also improved torque, making the car more flexible and enjoyable to drive.

Extensive work carried out, including:

Engine rebuilt: bored +0.060, pistons from AH Spares, decked block, new oil pump, new standard bearings, upgraded rear main seal, new BJ7 camshaft, tubular pushrods, lifters and timing chain tensioner from Sideways Engineering, duplex timing chain, stainless steel valves with radius-cut seats, and new valve guides. Retains original distributor and ignition coil.

Drivetrain and brakes: new clutch, new master cylinders (clutch and brakes), reconditioned original brake calipers, new brake pads, reconditioned rear wheel cylinders with new shoes, new brake hoses, and reconditioned slave cylinder.

Suspension: new nylon control arm bushings and anti-roll bar bushings.

Fuel system: new fuel tank and upgraded original SU fuel pump.

Exterior and trim: new rubber seals throughout (windscreen, doors, boot, and convertible top).

Interior: new leather interior and canvas soft top.

Wheels and tyres: new Michelin XZX tyres.

Additional features: overdrive, heater unit, new steering wheel, and new original km/h speedometer.

Condition

  • Mechanical condition

I’ve driven many Healeys, most with older restorations; this newly renovated example is a real pleasure to drive. The engine runs smoothly, well balanced and properly tuned, delivering strong, direct power with fully functioning overdrive. Handling is sharp and responsive, matched by strong, confident brakes—everything feels properly rebuilt.

The engine bay is very clean and well presented, packed with new components. Fitted with a nice full set of knock-off wire wheels and new Michelin XZX tyres.

A large number of photos document the renovation. Ready for its next owner and inspection-exempt.

  • Interior condition

As with many dry-state cars, the interior had suffered from sun exposure, so it has been fully retrimmed. This includes reupholstered seats, new panels and door cards, a new dashboard top pad with the dash rewrapped in leather, new carpets, and a new soft top with zip-out rear window.

All original gauges remain in place, along with a new original-style km/h speedometer and odometer. The heater fan has also been reviewed and is fully functional.

  • Exterior condition

“Only original once” fits this car perfectly. Original paint cars are rarely seen today—this is one of them. The body shows no signs of rust or previous repairs, though there are a few small dents and one larger dent on the lower left wing, which could be improved by a dent specialist. The paint remains shiny but shows polishing wear and minor marks around the car, mainly on sharper edges (see photos). The underbody is solid with no notable rust issues; a light underseal would be a sensible precaution for the future. Chrome work is bright overall, with only slight oxidation in places.

  • General condition

Extremely well-sorted car, built with full focus on comfort, reliability, and driving enjoyment. A significant amount of time and money has been invested. Personally, I love the original paintwork and would leave it as is, only addressing the dents.
