Citroën DS21 S Pallas — 1968

Beautiful and well-maintained in an exemplary preserved and refined condition. A goddess to resign to if you have already realized its greatness and a beauty to curiously experience if you have never done so before. Here is an opportunity that does not come up too often.

Description

Delivered new as a company car to a dentist's company in Djursholm in June 1968. Dentist Lennart Schennings used the car in his business until December 1975 when he bought it privately. According to the National Archives documentation, an Owe Körlinger takes over the DS in December 1980. He does not seem to have driven the car much since it looks like it was off the road until Ulf Söderbäck, the current owner's estate, buys it in May 1983. Ulf was a conscious Citroën enthusiast and a great car enthusiast. He drove the DS for a few years as a daily driver and in 1988, according to his own statement, he did a "cosmetic complete overhaul": he had all parts painted (on a DS, all body parts can be removed and painted separately), installed a Webasto sunroof, and cleaned everything underneath. After that, the car reportedly has never been driven in the rain or on gravel roads again. It has thus never been welded. According to documentation and "most likely" it has only rolled just under 138 500 km.

Condition

  • Mechanical condition:

Recently, it has been to a "Fyllemöte" in Swedish (Citroën enthusiasts with older gas-hydraulic suspension vehicles regularly meet at such meetings) and had its gas bellows filled with nitrogen gas to the correct pressure. The suspension, brakes, power steering, and gearbox are finely tuned and adjusted, and together with a well-tuned carburetor and pleasant engine, the driving experience provides that unique feeling that only a Citroën DS can provide when the model is at its best.

  • Interior condition:

Classic leather armchairs in delightful quality and comfort, in soft and fine condition, with original accessory headrests. Stylish door panels and a neat and discreet interior ceiling with the beautiful manual chrome handle that is the only visible part of the sunroof's construction. The older and more beautiful version of the dashboard with all the controls and buttons makes the interior driving experience even more attractive.

  • Exterior condition:

Beautiful Bordeaux red in the expressive color Rouge Bordeaux with a grey roof and equipped since 1988 with a not uncommon Webasto sunroof for the model. Nice hubcaps over grey wheels in the original color and correctly period-typical OE Michelin XAS tires with good tread.

  • General condition:

The owner refers to their repaint as a "cosmetic full restoration," but this is an exceptionally well-preserved and well-cared-for DS, in many ways untouched and relatively low-mileage. With an easy-to-maintain carbureted engine, finely tuned H-box (in French BVH, Boîte Vitesse Hydraulique), finely tuned gas-hydraulic suspension, and a pleasant model year, this is an example in a wonderfully seductive fine condition.

Facts about the model

Citroën DS has been a forward-thinking and fun form for conscious car owners since it was first introduced in 1955. The 1968 model was the first to feature the new front end and its characteristic height- and curve-regulating headlights. It was also the second year after Citroën introduced the green LHM oil as the main component in the gas-hydraulic system that integrates brakes, suspension, power steering, and the semi-automatic gearbox. LHM, Liquide Minéral Hydraulique, is unlike the hygroscopic (water-absorbing) brake fluid-like liquid they used before 1967, much more pleasant and safer to handle.
