"A sharp-looking bike, repainted in gunmetal metallic and in good overall condition. It comes with the original fairings and cowlings, and is fitted with a newer exhaust system. Runs well and sounds great"

Description

Swedish-sold from new, this bike has had six recorded owners. The first kept it for 20 years, and the following owners each held it for around 4–5 years. Most recently, it was inherited by the current family after their father, who owned it for just 1.5 years, sadly passed away. Although no documentation or service history is included, the bike has been repainted in a tasteful gunmetal metallic finish, done to a nice standard. It presents well with no visible damage or rust, and the engine area appears clean and well maintained.

I took a short test ride around the neighborhood—engine runs smoothly, the gearbox shifts nicely, and the bike feels stable. The front brake works fine, but the rear brake is currently not functioning. Most likely, the rear brake cylinder is stuck from standing and will need attention.

The bike is inspection-exempt for life, and with a few minor mechanical fixes, it should be ready to ride this summer.

Condition

  • Mechanical condition:

The engine starts right up using the manual choke and runs well, with no strange noises—it still feels strong. The gearbox shifts smoothly, and the bike rides without any wobble, feeling well-balanced. As mentioned, the front brake works fine, but the rear brake needs attention and likely a repair. Once the rear brake is sorted, it’s ready to be enjoyed this summer. I would also recommend a routine oil and fluid service, as the last service date is unknown. Fitted with stylish mag wheels, good older tires, and comes with two keys.

  • Interior condition:

The seat is in good condition with only a small 2 cm tear (see picture).

  • Exterior condition:

The bike presents itself very well. It has been repainted, with some light orange peel visible around the inner fairings. There are no dents, damage, or rust issues. Some oxidation is present on the alloy parts of the engine and brake calipers, but overall, the bike looks and feels like it has been well cared for.

  • General condition:

It’s a very presentable bike that’s fun to ride and highly sought after by riders and enthusiasts—offered at a very realistic price.

Facts about the model

When the CBX landed, it wasn’t just another motorcycle—it was a statement. In the February 1978 issue of Cycle Magazine, editor Cook Neilson summed it up perfectly after thrashing a pre-production bike at Orange County Raceway, Willow Springs, and on the Webco dyno:
“The objective—to build the fastest production motorcycle for sale anywhere in the world—has been met.”

Motoring journalist L.J.K. Setright later compared the CBX to the CB900F, famously noting:
“The CBX feels better and goes better, and the difference is greater than the difference in price, so the costlier bike is actually the better bargain. ... The CBX engine is as responsive as a racer, the nicest cycle motor to ever reach the street.”

Even today, the CBX’s six-cylinder howl and razor-sharp throttle response remain legendary. It wasn’t just fast—it was Honda proving a point
