Citroën CX Prestige Turbo 2 2.5 — 1988

The pinnacle of the CX range—once the most expensive, now the most sought-after. This is the long, luxurious Prestige model: gloriously over-the-top and powered by the most potent CX engine, a turbocharged petrol unit with 160 hp. It’s quick, plush, and delightfully eccentric—just as a CX should be.

Description

This is a Swedish-sold car, first registered in 1988. An interesting fact—only around 25 cars with this engine and specification are still on the road today. The current owner bought it five years ago, following 14 years of ownership by the previous keeper. It was already in good condition with an older renovation, but as a true Citroën enthusiast, the current owner gave it the extra care it deserved to keep it running in top form. A full list of the work carried out is documented below, and the car comes with a binder full of receipts and historical records.

Condition

  • Mechanical condition:

I’m always surprised by how enjoyable these cars are to drive—and just how far ahead of the competition they were in their day. The engine starts instantly and runs strong, with plenty of power from the turbo. The suspension lifts perfectly, giving you that classic Citroën “floating” ride, while handling, braking, and gear shifts all feel smooth and confident. It sits on nice wheels with good tires, and a newer exhaust has been fitted. The car is inspected until 2026-07-31 and ready to drive home.

  • Interior condition:

Interior is complete and tidy. The front seats show some wear, and there’s a small hole in the rear seat, but overall it presents well. Carpets, headliner, and door cards are all in good condition. The dashboard is clean with fully functioning gauges, Heater is stuck on max but can be manual adjust from a valve in the enginebay.t and both the electric windows and mirrors are working. The center console-mounted radio is also operational. The boot area is clean and well-kept.

  • Exterior condition:

The car presents itself well and clearly shows signs of being well cared for. The bodywork is straight, with the only visible rust found on the right front corner of the hood and the right A-pillar. There are some older signs of repair, along with minor blisters around the inner door frames, boot lid edge, and door edges. The underbody appears solid and free from any major issues. The paintwork is clean and bright, with a few minor marks and scratches from use. Plastic trims and bumpers are in good condition, though there is a small dent in the rear chrome bumper trim. The windscreen shows some scratching.

  • General condition:

This car has been lovingly cared for by enthusiastic owners, while most of its siblings have long since rusted away into the history books. That’s why so few remain in this kind of condition. It’s perfect for a devoted Citroën fan—or anyone looking for something wonderfully different, full of charm, quirks, and unmistakable personality.
