Description

The car was originally sold new in Sweden in 1966. It has been stored since 2001 and has had the same owner since 1979. The car is in well-maintained used condition. It has an older repaint where some rust blisters have appeared on the lower left side. There are also some minor paint damages around the car. It has a nice patina both on the exterior and interior, one could say.

It is suitable for restoration. A hardtop is included. The hubcaps are estimated to be slightly newer than the car. This car is registered as a 230 model, which aligns with the model year. However, the rear trunk reads "280," which matches the registered horsepower. According to information, it has a 230 engine, which corresponds to the engine number starting with 127.

The Mercedes is equipped with features such as a side-facing child seat for one person, a towbar, and a Blaupunkt Stereo.

Facts about the model

With design by the legendary Paul Bracq and underlying technology from the "fintail" model, the result was highly successful for the Pagoda, or W113 as it is known in Mercedes terminology. The engine was based on the regular sedan model, and combined with swing axle rear suspension, they created a sports car that was significantly more athletic than the previous generation SL. This was a modern, fast, and high-class open-top vehicle for two.

During the model's production from 1963 to 1971, several engine sizes were offered. Among them, the 230SL is often regarded as the most agile. The 230SL was unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show in 1963, and three years later, it was available with an optional five-speed gearbox.

In December of the same year, production of the 250SL began, which is now considered the rarest version of the Pagoda. In 1967, an optional hardtop variant was introduced, featuring two additional seats in the back instead of a soft top. The following year, the 250 was replaced by the 280, which became the most produced variant.

The last Pagoda rolled off the factory floor in 1971, with a total of 48,912 units manufactured. Out of these, a total of 261 new units were sold in Sweden. In the United States, they were sold with fully red taillights and different headlights, as well as air conditioning and a luggage shelf behind the seats instead of two small child seats.
