"Model Q4 was a highly technically advanced version of Model 164 that was never sold as new in Sweden. Here in a well-cared for and fine condition."

Description

Imported from Germany in 1999 (then with 131 440 km on the odometer) in original condition, except for a stainless steel exhaust system from Ferrita. The current owner, an Alfa Romeo enthusiast, has owned the car since June 2003. It has always been stored in a garage and driven sparingly under his ownership. It has been regularly serviced, most recently just over a year ago with a new timing belt, tensioner, and water pump. New hoses for the oil cooler have been installed. New discs and pads as well as brake hoses plus some other parts have been replaced. In addition, the headlights, fog lights, and windscreen have been replaced in recent years. A well-maintained and fully functional vehicle in all respects. Instruction books and other documentation as well as two keys and a code card are included.

Condition

  • Mechanical condition:

A technically advanced car, where everything works well and has received the attention and care needed. The engine purrs easily and runs smoothly. The gear shifting and chassis feel just right, and the car appears to be in very good condition throughout.

  • Interior condition:

Lovely and luxurious interior, where everything is in excellent condition. Everything works, and even the common "pixel problem" is absent, meaning it displays clearly and without any issues. The air conditioning cools well. However, the instrument housing has slightly detached from the panel.

  • Exterior condition:

Painting, glass, rims, and tires, etc are in a well-maintained and very good condition. Clear coat and paint peel on the driver's side mirror. Engine and trunk in fine condition. The strut for the rear hatch needs to be replaced.

  • General condition:

An interesting collectible from Alfa Romeo, a successful model here in an unusual version that is in exquisite condition. A delightful car that has a bright future and will provide its new owner with a classic with a great amount of driving pleasure and both eye and ear candy.

Facts about the model

The Alfa Romeo 164 was produced as a model from 1988 to 1997. It was designed by Pininfarina and became a sales success. The model was available exclusively as a four-door sedan, with engines ranging from 2.0L four-cylinders to 3.0L V6s in different versions.

One of Alfa Romeo's most technologically advanced models was the special edition Q4, introduced in 1993. It was never sold as new in Sweden, but the original price in Germany in 1995 was approximately 400,000 SEK, depending on the equipment. The exact number of units produced is unclear, but Magna-Steyr manufactured 1,300 drivetrain units, and information about approximately 1,100 manufactured cars is available.

The V6 engine featured 24 valves and produced 232 horsepower. The top speed was limited to 240 km/h. It had a Bosch-Motronic M3.7 engine management system. The transmission was a close-ratio Getrag 6-speed gearbox. The four-wheel drive system was provided by Magna Steyr, with electronic control and all-wheel drive management by Siemens. It had a viscous-type center differential and a rear differential with a limited-slip function. The power distribution between the front and rear wheels varied from 1-100% depending on the road conditions, controlled by a range of sensors, including ABS sensors, steering angle sensor, G-force sensors for longitudinal and lateral forces, gear position, engine speed, throttle input, and possible brake activation.

The suspension and damping were also electronically controlled, with adjustable shock absorbers from Sachs offering both normal and sport modes. Pitch control was achieved through a sensor in the right rear wing. In summary, it was a fantastic driving machine with advanced technology.
