"Exciting budget model that requires work to become truly beautiful. Great project for a complete restoration.

For those who want to quickly hit the road, we recommend a starter service, general inspection, and brake check. Then, you can have the car inspected by a vehicle inspection agency and start working on it based on the inspection results."

Description

In 1972, the 142 Lux was Volvo's cheapest budget model in the 140 series. It was equipped with the older, simpler aluminum grille, had a basic interior, and a rubber floor mat instead of a full textile carpet. It also lacked a clock. In other words, it was like the stepsister in the Cinderella fairy tale - not particularly fancy. All these features were aimed at keeping the price down for economically-minded customers.

Most of the 142 L models that later ended up in the hands of young people were upgraded with the De Luxe model's modern grille and other fancy additions. Therefore, seeing this 142 in its basic form feels refreshing. The owner purchased the car in 2008 with the intention of restoring it as a nostalgia vehicle since his family had owned a Volvo 142 during his upbringing. He is now selling the car as he realizes that he doesn't have enough time for the project. The car has had a total of 7 owners since new. The last inspection was in 2013. The mileage is indicated as 127 400 km, which could be accurate considering the condition of the interior.

A jack is missing, but a spare wheel and the original instruction book are included.

Facts about the model

Between 1966 and 1975, a total of 1.2 million Volvo 142, 144, and 145 models were produced. The Volvo 140 series marked a significant departure from the smooth lines of the Amazon and PV models when it was first introduced in August 1966. However, it retained many chassis similarities to the Amazon, including the B18 engine and the front suspension with double wishbones. With the 140 series, Volvo began to emphasize its commitment to safety, and the model was praised from the beginning for its high torsional rigidity, three-point seat belts, and disc brakes as standard. Over time, more powerful engines and additional equipment levels were introduced. The two-door version, the 142, was introduced in 1967, followed by the estate variant, the 145, the following year. The raised "Express" model was introduced in 1970, and the luxurious GL with fuel injection was introduced in 1971. The main updates for the 1972 model year were the flush-mounted door handles and the shorter gear lever.

The Volvo 140 series was produced until 1975, when it was replaced by the 240 series, which shared the same body structure and was built until 1993.
