"What could be better than taking a ride in a nice Pagoda on a sunny spring day. Sports or glider, it's up to the driver. This one is in very good condition."

Description

A Swedish-sold car that was originally green. The current owner bought it 25 years ago. At that time, it was in a worn-out condition and was renovated in 2007-2008 by Competition Motors in Alunda, known for their fine work. The goal was to restore it to its original condition, but with the exception that the owner now wanted it in the classic color combination of white paint and red interior. Original parts were used as much as possible, and most new parts were purchased from Firma Niemöller in Germany. Receipts for purchases and work are included. The car has been inspected for all future use and is insured as a classic car.

Condition

  • Mechanical condition:

The car starts easily and runs well, but has a tendency to jerk at lower speeds. However, since the car has been standing for a long time, an overhaul is recommended. Otherwise, everything seems to be working properly regarding the transmission, brakes, etc. The undercarriage has not been checked on a lift, but it appears to be in very good condition after the renovation.

  • Interior condition:

The interior is in exquisite condition with beautiful seats, door panels, and carpets. The wood is in great shape, and the white steering wheel is beautiful. There is also a Blaupunkt radio installed.

  • Exterior condition:

The car has a very nice and glossy paint job, with some minor scratches and chips. The chrome and glass are in great condition, as are the wheels and newer Michelin tires. The hubcaps are from a 280 SL. The engine compartment is in good shape, and the luggage compartment is also in fine condition, as is the car's hardtop. The convertible top is also in good and tight condition, with minor wear at the bottom due to maneuvering.

  • General condition:

A professionally renovated car in very good condition, which has been relatively lightly driven since the renovation. The Pagoda is one of the great successes of the 1960s and an interesting classic car with collector status.

Facts about the model

In the late 1950s, Karl Wilfert was tasked with the tough job of developing a replacement for Mercedes' classic sports cars, the 300SL and 190SL. He had the help of artists and designers such as Paul Bracq. In the spring of 1963, Mercedes unveiled the new W113 230 SL model at the Geneva Motor Show. It was well-received and quickly gained the nickname Pagoda, thanks to the special roof profile of the hardtop. The rest is automotive history - few models have garnered as much attention, then or now. Admittedly, there were some who felt it was not as "sporty" as its predecessor, the 300SL, or as beautiful as the 190SL. However, it was a product of its time, with cutting-edge design, technology, and safety, and is a Mercedes icon from the swinging 60s. So, despite some criticism, it proved to be potent, with sturdy construction that withstood tough rally conditions. The model evolved into the 250SL and 280SL, with the latter being produced until the 1971 model year.
