"A Rolls Royce Silver Cloud III with a silky smooth V8 is an impressive carriage, both to see and to drive. In this beautiful color combination and well-maintained original condition, this example is something quite special. As 'icing on the cake,' it also features the delightful sunroof, an attribute for wonderful summer tours. This is probably a job that was carried out on behalf of the first owner relatively promptly."

Description

Built at the factory in Crewe, for the customer Mr. Matthews in Swansea, Wales, this vehicle is likely the only owner in the UK. The construction history is documented and included, with copies from Rolls Royce.

In late summer 1987, it was imported and registered for traffic in Sweden. The first owner here was the owner of an advertising firm. For a couple of years, it was used as a company representation car (there is a driving journal). In 1992, it was partially renovated by Förenade Bil AB in Stockholm. It then received a new cellulose paint in the original color Dawn Blue and had some wood details renovated. The car was not in bad condition, but it was lavishly cared for. Additionally, it received a factory-new replacement engine. This engine has now only covered about 30,000 km.

From 1992 to 2006, it belonged to a Säteri and was driven very sparingly. In August 2006, the current owner acquired the vehicle. It has only been driven in the summer at car meetings within RREC, at exhibitions, pleasure trips, and wedding drives. Always stored in a heated garage.

Work and annual service at Pik AB, Callisma, and Rohdins Classic Car, with technical expertise through RREC. In 2007, the bumpers were re-chromed. In 2020, the brakes were renovated, and the front suspension was adjusted (Rohdins). New period-appropriate diagonal tires were purchased and mounted (Pik AB). Annual reconditioning with waxing and polishing (Bilvårdshuset Nacka, Stockholms Bilvård, J Sandell, etc.). The years with the current owner are well-documented, and they, along with all inspection protocols, are included. The car's odometer reading is 76,770 km.

Condition

  • Mechanical condition:

The car starts easily and runs quietly, nicely, and smoothly in the engine. During a test drive, all functions such as brakes, automatic transmission, electrical functions, etc., were perceived to work well. The ride was calm and pleasant.

Not checked on a lift, but everything appears to be in good order.

  • Interior condition:

The entire interior is in a lovely, sober original condition with mild signs of use. However, some wood details were addressed about 30 years ago.

  • Exterior condition:

The Dawn Blue color is beautiful and the paint is glossy. There was a spot where the polishing is starting to show through the paint, which should be easy to fix. Shiny glass and rubber details are in fine condition. The wheels and tires are also in good shape. The sunroof is in fine, tight, and well-functioning condition. The engine and luggage compartments are also in fine condition with original tools.

  • General condition:

The model, equipment, condition, history, and color combination - indeed, the whole carriage and its aura - is a motor-historical bullseye. It doesn't get much more beautiful than this... A classic and highly interesting collector's item.

Facts about the model

The Rolls Royce Silver Cloud was produced from 1955 to 1966 and largely shared its appearance with Bentley's S model. The Silver Cloud Series I featured a straight six-cylinder engine of 4887 cc, while Series II and III were equipped with a V8 engine of 6230 cc. The transmission was handled by a four-speed automatic. The body came in two standard lengths: the normal length at 538 cm, and the Long Wheel Base (LWB) at 549 cm.

In addition to four-door sedans in normal and LWB, chassis were provided to coachbuilding firms that created their own versions. These could include extended limousines, two-door coupé and convertible versions, or other unique designs. While such customizations were more the rule than the exception in earlier times, with the Silver Cloud model, there was less of this. However, out of the 7,451 units produced, there were still 556 chassis on which special versions were built.

When the Series 3 was introduced for the 1963 model year, the vehicles featured dual headlights.

The Silver Cloud model was eventually replaced by the Rolls Royce Silver Shadow.
