"Functional with an exciting insight into how a military vehicle operated and how they were maintained at that time."

Description

It arrived in Sweden in the early nineties from Norway, where it had spent much of its time as NATO equipment in a mobile inventory depot, where it ended up in the aftermath of World War II. Under Swedish ownership, the car has not traveled long distances on roads. With a clearly indicated top/marching speed on the back of 45 mph = just over 70 km/h and considerable fuel consumption, the operational range is somewhat limiting, although the enthusiasm can be great among owners and drivers. The current owner has driven 10 miles since purchasing it in 2005.

Condition

  • Mechanical condition:

The odometer shows 2,937 miles, which is just under 500 kilometers, but these readings should be taken with a grain of salt. The engine is a straight-six with 4.4 liters and 92 horsepower, surprisingly healthy for its age and clearly well-preserved. The brakes have recently been inspected and a new master cylinder has been fitted.

  • Interior condition:

Untouched interior, the owner also has newly sewn seats that will be sent to a new owner when a storage space can be opened, currently blocked by a couple of containers.

  • Exterior condition:

Military finish from back in the day and plenty of equipment. The wind, rain, and winter doors that attach to the regular low-cut doors are in excellent condition and serve their purpose well. Original tires with good tread, of course, and reportedly still provide good grip on various surfaces.

  • General condition:

Exciting, worthy and nice military truck to bring down to Normandy when the D-Day landing is commemorated every year in June. Such vehicles formed a backbone in the Allied advances on the ground.

Facts about the model

General Motors, already supplying modified commercial trucks to the Army, modified the 1939 ACKWX – built for the French Army – into the CCKW.The General Motors design was chosen by the Army and went into production at GM'S Yellow Truck and Coach division's Pontiac, Michigan plant alongside 6×4 CCWs. Later they were also manufactured at GM's St. Louis, Missouri Chevrolet plant.
