"Here we have something that 25-30 years ago would have seemed almost unthinkable to show at car meets. An original car that is neither fully restored nor in flawlessly untouched condition. If you had arrived in one of these, you might have felt like the poor cousin from the countryside. In fact, this car is better than it initially appears. The owner works as an Airport Officer at Hagfors Airport and has been using it as a commuter car for the past few weeks, covering seventy kilometers a day. The car comes with a valid inspection from the vehicle inspection authority. With this car, you can choose to address everything or nothing at all, and everything in between. PS! Nowadays, these unrestored Saab 93s often receive more attention than the ones in mint condition."

Description

This Saab, which has been off the road since 1981, has now been brought forward, repaired, and is part of the rolling cultural heritage. What we know about its history is that the car was in Kramfors and passed the vehicle inspection in 1980. After that, it remained off the road. After having a few more owners in northern Sweden, the car made a brief stopover in Stockholm in 2012 before finding its way to Värmland. First in Tösse and now in Munkfors. Throughout this time, the owners had an unrealized intention to restore it. The current owner is a car enthusiast who owns several cars of the same brand. He also participates in rallies with a Saab. He purchased this Saab 93 in October 2022. Since then, he has repaired the car, and it is now in a well-functioning and usable condition. Please note that we differentiate between the terms "restored" and "repaired" here. When repairing a car, everything necessary to drive and use the vehicle is addressed. On the other hand, a restoration can range from partially restored to completely pristine condition. However, in this case, we don't need to consider the distinction between partially restored and fully restored.

The owner appreciates the patinated style and has focused on addressing the technical aspects. The car is used daily and recently underwent an inspection with a few remarks that will be addressed before delivery to the new owner. The original instruction manual, spare wheel, and jack are included. Some loose parts, as shown in separate pictures, are also included.

Condition

  • Mechanical condition:

This could potentially be Sweden's easiest starting Saab 93. It starts right away and runs smoothly. Equipped with a 750cc three-cylinder two-stroke engine and a 3-speed gearbox. New brake cylinders and a refurbished master cylinder have been installed. The original starter motor with a cable start has been replaced with a newer one featuring an electric solenoid. The freewheel function of the gearbox is uncertain and needs to be inspected. The temperature gauge is not functioning. The original fuel tank is missing.

  • Interior condition:

The seats are from the Saab 96 and have only a minor hole on the driver's seat, while the rear seat is in poorer condition. The door panels show signs of wear. The steering wheel is from the Saab 96, and the correct steering wheel is included separately. Please refer to the pictures. Overall, the interior is worn but functional. The luggage compartment lacks a rubber mat and the sealing strip around the trunk lid.

  • Exterior condition:

We assess that the majority of the car retains its original paintwork. The paint shows signs of wear, minor cracking, rust spots from stone chips, and some touch-ups. The most recent touch-up was done this year when the current owner had the lower part of the right side panel repaired. There are also some dents on the body, with the dent on the driver's door being the most visible. Please refer to the pictures. The rear bumper is missing. The wheels are from the Saab 96, and the original wheels are included. The body feels very solid. Newer headlights have been installed for improved safety during nighttime driving.

  • General condition:

Repaired genuine Saab 93. Despite some remarks, the car leaves a very good impression. It is suitable for ongoing restoration or as a daily driver.

Owner's comment

In 2022, I purchased a motorcycle in Karlstad. As usual, conversations about different vehicles ensued, and when I mentioned my interest in Saab cars, I was advised to consider this particular car. At the time, it was partially disassembled, with the engine and gearbox placed on a pallet next to the car. The engine had been repainted, but the seller was unaware of the specific repairs carried out on it. I decided to reassemble the engine and give it a test start. It ran so well that it marked the beginning of getting the car back on the road. I opted to address only what was necessary. We repaired the lower part of the side panel behind the right door, the rear shock absorber mountings, and a hole in the bottom plate under the fuel tank. Following that, the entire brake system has been renovated. The car was recently inspected with a few remarks that will be rectified. Some items are included, such as the original starter motor and steering wheel, an extra generator, and the correct sunshade (see pictures). The steel bars for the interior ceiling are also included, along with five sheet metal rims of the correct model.

Facts about the model

The Saab 93 was an evolution of Saab's first passenger car, the Saab 92, and featured a new front design, a more powerful three-cylinder engine, and a range of other improvements, including new wheel suspensions with coil springs and a solid rear axle. The Saab 93 achieved great success in rally competitions. The 93B model was produced between September 1957 and August 1959. The updates included a full windshield, the replacement of direction indicators with turn signals, and improved seats. In the autumn of 1958, additional enhancements were introduced, such as larger brakes, asymmetrical high beams, interior lighting with door switches, and a lockable glove compartment lid. The production of the Saab 93B totaled 29,830 units.
