Description

This motorcycle was registered for road use in Sweden on September 28, 2013. According to available information, it arrived in Sweden as part of household goods from Australia. The previous owner had it for several years there, and it was a cherished companion. It hadn’t been ridden for quite some time but was brought back to life a few years before being brought to Sweden. The current owner acquired it last autumn. A binder with various documents and literature is included.

Condition

  • Mechanical condition:

Starts easily, and the 54 hp runs smoothly and steadily in the engine. The sound is pure music to the ears. Most things appear to function well, and it passed inspection without any issues during the test ride.

  • Interior condition:

Nice saddle and a well-functioning rider’s cockpit with working gauges.

  • Exterior condition:

Appears to be complete and in original condition with authentic patina from use. The exhaust pipes are likely of a later date, built to match the look and deliver a powerful sound profile.

  • General condition:

It doesn’t get more badass than this—Moto Guzzi’s bikes from the ’60s and ’70s are bold and highly sought after. In this patinated condition, you’re getting a true classic and enthusiast’s machine packed with raw character and attitude.

Facts about the model

Moto Guzzi has been in production since 1921, and manufacturing still takes place in the original factory in Mandello del Lario by Lake Como in northern Italy. Since 2005, the brand has been part of the Piaggio Group, following their acquisition of the Aprilia Group, which included Moto Guzzi.

A hallmark of the brand since the mid-1960s is the air-cooled, longitudinally mounted V-twin engine. It has been produced in four main versions: the Big Block, Small Block, the Daytona engine, and an upgraded four-valve version known as the Quattrovalvole.

The Big Block is the oldest but remains the most widely used version, manufactured in sizes ranging from 700 to 1200 cc.

As cars began to dominate the market in the early 1960s, Moto Guzzi responded to declining motorcycle demand by producing various tricycles, agricultural machines, and specialized vehicles.

Around the same time, engineer Giulio Cesare Carcano designed a 90-degree air-cooled V-twin engine intended for sport versions of the Fiat 500. These engines were built at Fiat, where production outpaced demand. Eventually, after a few turns of fate, these engines found their way into Moto Guzzi’s tricycles, agricultural machines, and ultimately their motorcycles. The brand is also closely associated with shaft drive.
