Description
According to the owner, all auxiliary equipment functions except the air conditioning, and the tachometer works intermittently. This Volvo was used during Prime Minister Olof Palme’s trip through Jämtland in late February 1986, specifically during the visit to the Board factory in Pilgrimstad, where Palme and Haurgren met the press and public outside the factory, arriving in a police escort in ACU121. This became the Prime Minister’s last official journey, placing this Volvo 264 in a unique part of recent Swedish history. (See the video link at about six minutes in: Watch the video here
The car remained in the County Administrative Board’s ownership until 1995 when it was sold, after roughly 250,000 km of salt-free driving in Jämtland, to an employee who became the second owner. Shortly before this, the car had all its windows smashed and parts of the paint scratched while parked overnight outside the County Administration. The car received new windows and was repainted according to the methods of the time; today, there is some filler cracking on the rear doors.
The car was then driven daily until 2002, when it was taken off the road due to a broken auxiliary air flap.
In 2019, the car was acquired by the current (third) owner, who has aimed to preserve as much of the original vehicle as possible during the restoration. The car is unrestored with the exception of the sand panels behind the rear fenders, which have been partially replaced, and the spare wheel wells have also been addressed.
The car is thus in everyday condition and has deliberately only undergone mechanical restoration under the current owner. The engine has been replaced and has traveled about 150,000 km, well-maintained with documented regular oil and coolant changes.
All parts removed from the car have been saved in boxes. The intention is to keep the car as close as possible to how it was in February 1986.

Condition
-
Mechanical condition
Easy to start. The engine ticks slightly, which is not uncommon for PRV engines. Second gear feels a bit stiff to engage. The tachometer is loose and works intermittently. The radio has poor reception.
-
Interior condition
The interior is worn, which is not unusual for a car that has traveled around 400,000 km. The dashboard has several cracks. The manual sunroof functions as it should.
-
Exterior condition
The paint is worn, showing signs of filler shrinkage, clear coat peeling, touch-ups, rust, and several small dents—see photos. Some trim and plastic parts are loose, some of which are visible in the images. The tires are newer with good tread.
-
General condition
A Volvo 264 in worn, everyday condition. Inspected and approved at the vehicle inspection, making it roadworthy.
