Description

This is a Swedish-sold Volvo 1800 from new, with only three owners in total. It has been in the hands of the current owner since February 1992. Between 1993 and 1995, the body was renovated and repainted. The engine remains mostly original, with the fiber camshaft gear replaced by a more durable steel version. The clutch has been renewed, and the gearbox rebuilt with new bearings, synchro rings, and a new layshaft.

The interior has been reupholstered by S-Klädsel, including the seats and interior panels. Over the years, the car has been continuously maintained, with worn parts, hoses, and other components replaced as needed.

It has a unique and documented history—representing the 1970 model year at Volvo’s 75th anniversary exhibition in Arendal and being voted Best 1800 at VROM in 2004. In 2009, Volvo Heritage borrowed the car for Klassiker magazine’s 1970s-themed event in Borås.

Some minor cosmetic refreshing could be considered. There are a few small paint blisters on the left door and in front of the stone guard on the same side. A crack is present on the top part of the dashboard (see photo). The front suspension is likely the only major area that hasn’t been addressed, aside from the shock absorbers

Condition

  • Mechanical condition:

Starts instantly, with an engine that runs and sounds great. The gearbox, steering, brakes, and overall road handling all feel tight and responsive, and the overdrive functions as it should. The car has always been kept in top running condition. While the front suspension may benefit from a review and possibly some new bushes, no issues were noticed during driving. Nice undamges klover wheels and good tires. Inspection-exempt for life and ready to be driven home.

  • Interior condition:

The bright red interior is in exceptionally well-kept condition. The seats are free from damage or wear and still look nearly new—matching the clean door cards, headliner, and carpets. The dashboard pad has a small crack that could be repaired, and the original gauges are all present. Overall, it’s a very pleasant and inviting space to sit in and enjoy the drive.

  • Exterior condition:

The car was renovated around 30 years ago and still remains in very nice, presentable condition. During the restoration, lead loading was used instead of body filler—a sign of quality work. The main rust repairs at the time were focused around the lower body (see pictures).

Today, there are a few small blisters on the lower doors and front wheel arch, which are easy to repair. There's also one rust blister on the side near the rear stone guard (see pictures). The underbody is clean and tidy, with only some light surface rust on the driver’s side sill—nothing serious.

The paintwork is bright and clean, with only minor signs of use. The chromework is shiny overall, with just a few small areas of light oxidation.

  • General condition:

A truly nice car with excellent ownership history and a past that includes participation in several Volvo events. It can be enjoyed for many years to come with just routine maintenance. The few minor cosmetic issues are easily addressed and not urgent—especially if the car is used primarily as a summer driver.
