Description

This unusual and genuine Citroën AL15 was purchased by its current owner in 1972 - and has since been enjoyed every summer. When the owner - who is a keen Citroën enthusiast - bought this car almost 50 years ago, it had recently arrived in Sweden from Norway where it probably came as new.
This car has never been completely restored, just cared for and carefully restored with partially renovated interior. With its aged cellulose paintwork in maroon and green, fragile rubber strips and original chrome, the condition is far from perfect. On the other hand, this is a car full of character of the kind that a restored car can never get. In addition, it is complete with the original Marchal headlights, the Jaeger Art Deco-style instruments and the fantastic radiator cover. Everything with very nice patina.
The car is fully drivable, and the straight six-cylinder engine of 53 hp and the unsynchronized three-speed box work as it should. What deviates from the original car is the starter motor from a Chrysler and a modern electric petrol pump with its twelve-volt converter. The car comes with - among other things - its original starter crank, indicator-arrows, workshop manual and spare parts catalogue.
Citroën AL15 goes to the story as André Citroën's last rear-wheel drive design. The model that existed until 1936 lived its last years hidden in the shadow of the new front-wheel drive 7CV Traction Avant model that was introduced in 1934. The more well-known B15 model was built on the same chassis but was front-wheel-driven. Quite many were produced, but most of them destroyed during the war.

Facts about the model

Citroen's history began as early as 1913, when Frenchman André Citroën began to manufacture his well-known angle gears. Early on, he began to take an interest in mass production, and in 1919 he and Jules Salamon developed their first two car models. Together with Peugeot and Renault, Citroën quickly became one of the major French manufacturers, and already in 1929, they produced some 100,000 cars a year.
New for the 1929 season was 15CV, with a 2.6 litre six-cylinder side valve engine of 56 hp, 3-speed unsynchronized gearbox, battery ignition and servo brakes.
The model that existed until 1936 was available with a series of bodies and lived in the last few years in the shadow of the new front-wheel drive 7CV Traction Avant model that was introduced 1934. In the same year, the15CV was also modernized with a more inclined grill and a more expressed bumper design.
