Renault 4L — 1968

Cult Frenchman with whom many have a relationship or an opinion, similar to compatriot Citroen 2CV. The interior is technically lavish, while the exterior is straightforward.

"Right in every way. French stripped down vintage anti-hero in an easy-to-maintain functional condition."

Description

The car was sold new in the spring of 1968, a time when the French somewhat ascetic functional small car was among the trendiest and the most socially conscious you could travel in. And perhaps above all, to be seen in. Where it has been during the seventies, eighties and nineties there are no notes about it, but that information can of course be searched in the National Archives' vehicle register. Eventually, the R4 ended up in Dalarna and Härjedalen before it came to the Stockholm area where the current owner bought the car a couple of years ago. He has used it when the weather and the seasons have allowed. The deviating mileage at a couple of the inspections are probably just incorrect readings as the odometer is a bit tricky to read on the car. A 5 easily becomes an 8, for example, and the first digit in the odometer is a bit high. According to information, it has probably travelled a total of 128,000 km. The last approved inspection was done in any case in 2017 and the car is thus exempt from inspection since then.

Condition

  • Mechanical condition:

In recent years, the car has received a major round of mechanical updates, including a new clutch, brakes, tyres, water pump, fan belt, plus, switches, capacitors, distributor, cables, drive shafts, battery, exhaust system, valves, valve springs and engine gaskets. And it shows that the driveline feels healthy and alert.

  • Interior condition:

Interior is newer and invitingly whole and clean. However, it appears that someone has dropped a can of paint or something in the trunk, but the carpet conceals most of the uninvited decoration.

  • Exterior condition:

Glossy paintwork with some spontaneous-artistic embellishment and polished primer, cool and fun appearance.

  • General condition:

Overall, a car in good shape that personifies and lives up to the concept of the cool small car with a genuine attitude.
