Description

The current owner is number two in the order. The car was driven up to the 70s by an elderly gentleman who cared for his car tenderly. Original registration number: T44053 (Örebro County). Instead of buying a new car, the first owner had to upgrade the car with newer taillights from modern PV 544 and whole "safety window" (Swedish Car Glass in Stockolm) through his local Volvo dealer. This was done sometime during the 60's.
Ten years ago, motor journalist Hans Hedberg, Teknikens Värld / Bonnier News, bought his dream PV and has since continued to care for a car in its un renovated design. Service, ultrasonic cleaning of carburettor / inlet, renovation of brake system and overhaul cooling package are some measures taken over the last ten years. Ekipaget has been used in most reports in the Technological World and Classic Cars, participated in exhibitions and on travel reports.

  • Mechanical condition:

The car runs very well with a strong B16A engine and gearbox that does not win. Ultrasonic washing of carburetor and inlet carried out. Brake Renovation. Annual service including oil change. Review cooler package. Fine summer tires as well as fully dubbed winter tires on original wheels. Inspected for life out!

  • Interior condition:

Whole original upholstery (cover put on until 2010), full ceiling (original). Two point safety belt (original safety equipment). Worn door sides and door handle, worn floor mat. Original spare wheel (Trelleborg), jack, tool bag and first aid kit. Whole windshield (Swedish Car Glass Stockholm) mounted in the 1960s. All electrical wiring and instrumentation work impeccably.

  • Exterior condition:

Original lacquer without serious scratches. Smaller rust spots (see photo) but the overall impression is excellent. Newly polished and surface treated. Consistently fine finish on all chrome details.

  • General condition:

A brilliant example of "Volvo's Value Lasts". Well cared for original car by owner who managed to take care of his car. For those who want a pristine Volvo PV 444 L of the last year model in good condition, this is the model. With new lacquer and windshield restoration and tail light perfect hobby car, or keep it as it is! Doorway sides, inner door handles and rubber floor mats are worn but keep the dimensions. Carefully cared for with the last inspection done. Rolls very light with fine mechanical feel in the driveline.

Facts about the model

PV 444 is regarded as the Swedish public car by its great popularity. Three prototypes were made in 1944, one of which one was first officially presented on September 1, 1944 in Stockholm. The serial production of the PV 444 A started in February 1947. The design was inspired by US cars from the same period, mainly Pontiac from the early 1940s, and the design was Helmer Petterson (father of the sailor and designer Pelle Petterson who designed the P1800) and Erik Jern. The design of the Volvo PV 444 was influenced by the Hanomag 1.3 liter released in 1939.
PV 444 L: Last year model, January 1957 - August 1958. New B16 engine, modified rear axle with reaction rod; electric windscreen wipers; new radiator grill with large V mark in the middle; side indicators are replaced by small round indicators at the front; new taillights with integrated indicators and stop lights. Seat belts are offered as optional equipment. Production amounted to 64,087 cars of the L / LS versions. In August 1958, PV 444 was replaced by the modernized PV 544, which was manufactured up to the introduction of the modern 140 series in the mid-1960s. The absolute last PV (544 G Sport) rolled off the production line at Volvo's plant in Lundby on October 20, 1965, at 3 pm and had chassis number 440,000. The car was directly transported to the Volvo Museum.
