Description

One of the finest Volvo 745s we've seen. The car has been featured in various classic car magazines, including Klassikers Köpguide for the 745 (see pictures). It was also part of the filming for the movie "A Man Called Ove." The car has received numerous awards at different car meets, most recently being displayed at Vrom, where it was named "Club’s Winner" due to its excellent condition.

Owner's comment

It was an experience to be part of the filming of "A Man Called Ove" with our fine Volvo (see pictures). In this car, no children have spilled ice cream in the back seat, no tradespeople have loaded boards in the trunk, no teenagers have skidded around in winter, and no heavy trailers have been towed through traffic.

Facts about the model

The Volvo 740 was developed in Sweden and the Netherlands, and was primarily assembled and built in Sweden, though also in Belgium. Volvo made a strong push into the American market, and in the USA, cars with a wedge-shaped, angular profile were highly fashionable during the 1970s and 1980s. Thus, the Volvo 740 adopted a distinctly angular design.

Production ceased with the 1993 model in the fall of 1992, due to the launch of the similar and updated Volvo 940. However, even two decades after production stopped, 700 series cars were still common on Swedish roads.

The Volvo 740 was occasionally referred to as the "Sossecontainer" because it was a popular car among the working class. This term should not be confused with the sister model Volvo 760, which was a luxury car at that time.

In 1986, the first estate model was introduced outside North America. The models that year looked exactly like those from 1985 but featured new wheel trims and a different logo on the model designation. Additionally, the GLE was also available with a turbo diesel engine (D24T with 109 hp and 205 Nm) from VAG.
