Porsche 930 Turbo — 1978

A costly Porsche build that is more track-oriented but still road legal. Updated, fine-tuned, and performance-ready without over-thinking the budget.

Description

The current owner discusses his experience with the car after purchasing it in 2004 in the pdf below. You can find all of the technical information and performance numbers here; the project costs roughly 700,000 SEK, not counting the car, and comes with two large folders full of receipts.

According to the owner, he was inspired to create this after seeing a report produced by "Peter Sundfeldt" my college while driving Jocke Qvarnström's wild 911, which was also based on an older 1970s model.

Condition

  • Mechanical condition:

The "Owner's Comments" section below has a list of engine combinations, parts, and power levels. There is a lot of power "on tap" when driving, and the clutch, like any advanced race car, requires a hard but delicate touch. The transmission is a race-modified original 4-speed with a high gear ratio. The appearance of the charge air cooler installed on the bonnet may be improved. Everything in the car can be tweaked and tuned in using the MAXX ecu touch pad and just turning the bar pressure switch.

  • Interior condition:

Spartan and a bit rough interior more focus on light weight than comfort, older carpets, Momo racing seat with high-tech door cards in the form of carbon fiber and classic door closing strap from Porsche's RS and GT models. The gear lever arrangement is lavishly constructed and open. The welded brackets for the cage on the arches are bare and have surface rusty, just needs a general tidy up if desired.

  • Exterior condition:

Nice silver color with a crack in the plastic on the back bumper. With a wing from a 3.8 RSR and an overall posture that exudes power and presence, this car has an aggressive stance.

  • General condition:

A completed and unusual Porsche project in good, usable condition - if you like racing clutches. You will need to train yourself to drive it and handle the power, but after that it is just pure fun. The car was recently inspected/MOT'd and passed with no issues.
