Description
The current owner acquired the car in June last year. Since then, it has been used purely as an enthusiast’s car for open-top drives in fine weather and has been kept garaged when not in use.
The original US-spec bumpers have been replaced with traditional chrome items. The steering wheel has also been changed for a slightly smaller one, making it easier to get in and out of the car. The original steering wheel is included with the car, as are the original headrests, which have currently been removed.
A small retro-style Marshall speaker is fitted in the car and can be connected to a mobile phone.
The car is inspected and ready to drive.

Condition
-
Mechanical condition
The car starts easily and the engine runs well. During a short test drive on smaller roads and through a residential area, it felt well sorted, with good steering, clutch, gearbox and brakes.
There was a slight tendency for the gears to graunch on one or two changes, although this is often a matter of familiarity and not unusual for cars of this type. The throttle pedal also felt somewhat stiff. Again, this is something one quickly gets used to, although it would be worth looking over to make the car smoother and easier to drive.
The car has not been inspected on a lift, but everything that could be seen looked good, and its history in Florida suggests it has spent much of its earlier life in a relatively dry climate. -
Interior condition
The upholstery appears to be original and is in good condition, showing normal signs of use. The door cards, interior panels and carpeting are likewise in good condition.
The steering wheel, controls, dashboard and instruments all function well. The steering wheel has been replaced, but the original is included with the car. An original headrest is also included. -
Exterior condition
The car has been repainted in a lively red colour, although it is uncertain when this was done – most likely several years ago. The preparation work was not carried out to the highest standard. Most areas show normal signs of use, although the front edge of the bonnet appears to have had some repairs.
The bumpers have been replaced with chrome items. The chrome trim, mouldings, badges and lighting details are all in good usable condition, with normal wear consistent with their age.
The car is fitted with period-style painted “mag-style” wheels and good Firestone tyres. The engine bay is in good condition, although the bonnet is missing its sound insulation.
The soft top is in good condition, but one of the support bars in the frame has come loose. This should be a relatively straightforward repair. -
General condition
This is a lively little sports car with a playful character and honest, well-used condition, ideal for someone who values driving and enjoyment over polishing and concours presentation. At the same time, it would still fit in perfectly at seasonal meets and events.
An MGB is easy to keep on the road and remains an ever-popular classic among enthusiasts.

Facts about the model
From 1965, the mechanical specification was improved with a five-bearing crankshaft, an oil cooler as standard and an electric rev counter. The same year also saw the introduction of an attractive and practical three-door 2+2 coupé, known as the GT. Its fashionable hatchback-style body was designed by Pininfarina, giving owners enough space for hunting, golf and other sporting or leisure equipment.
Two years later, a six-cylinder engine was also fitted to the compact model, both in roadster and coupé form. For the 1970 model year, the grille was redesigned and Rostyle wheels replaced the previous steel wheels. Wire wheels remained available as an option, as they had throughout the model’s production.
The MGB would later also appear with Rover V8 power. Production continued until 1981. Later derivatives followed, and even today it is possible to build what is effectively a new MGB, thanks to the availability of newly manufactured bodyshells and an enormous range of parts.
It remains a much-loved and cherished classic – a model that never really goes out of style.
