"The owner, a dedicated VW enthusiast, has owned the car since 2009 and fully restored both the body and mechanicals. During the test drive, the car handled well, with balanced road performance, a great-sounding engine, reliable brakes, and smooth gear shifts. There is a slight clunk when shifting into reverse, which is typical for these models. The car is road tax-exempt and has a valid inspection until April 30, 2025."

Description

This Golf GTI was originally sold in Malung in 1984. The car has had six previous owners and has covered 207,000 kilometers. The current owner bought the car in 2009 and used it as a daily driver while gradually refurbishing it, addressing all the mechanical aspects over time. During this period, the car received several new parts, including:

Fuel tank
Radiator
Brake system
Bushings
Shock absorbers
Head gasket
Cabin fan
Exhaust system

In 2012, the process of replacing the rust-damaged sheet metal on the body began. This work was carried out professionally, and the car received a fresh paint job in 2013. During reassembly, the headliner and most of the rubber seals were also replaced.

The car was showcased at Bug Run in 2016, where it won first place in the GTI class as part of the model's 40th-anniversary celebration.

In 2020, a new engine was built with fresh bearings, pistons, a camshaft, and a reworked cylinder head. The engine bay was thoroughly cleaned, and several components, including the injectors, fuel lines, alternator, and water pump, were replaced. In 2021, the instrument cluster was restored with new components by a specialist in England. In 2022, the gearbox received a full overhaul with new synchro rings, bearings, and seals, and the clutch and release bearing were also replaced. By 2023, the second oil and filter change was completed following the engine rebuild.

Deviations from original condition:

Extractor manifold (EGR removed)
Door panels from an older Golf (without plastic pockets/high speakers, with soft carpet and chrome trim. Originals are included.)
Headlight washers removed.
Small washer fluid tank in the engine bay.
Black vinyl film between the taillights.
License plate mounted on the skid plate instead of a holder.
Aftermarket fuel pump bracket.
Engine block is not JJ, but the pistons and camshaft are GTI-spec.

The car comes with a wealth of historical documentation, including a stamped service book, older receipts, and inspection reports.
