"For its time, it was a superb long-distance cruiser of distinction, blending classic British attributes that evoke the scent of a bygone Empire with modern technology, functionality, and safety. Few vehicles can match these in terms of comfort and a sense of refined luxury. This example is in excellent condition with few owners and low mileage."

Condition

  • Mechanical condition:

The car started easily and ran smoothly with no issues in the engine or drivetrain. According to the information, the engine has recently been checked and found to be in good condition. It was test-driven in calm urban traffic as well as on rural roads. Everything seems to be functioning well, including the chassis, suspension, wheel alignment, steering, shifting, and brakes. That said, as an older car that hasn’t been driven regularly recently, it would benefit from a thorough inspection. Although not inspected on a lift, what could be seen appeared to be in good condition, and the Swedish Vehicle Inspection (Bilprovningen) has noted no issues.

  • Interior condition:

The interior is pleasant and refined, in original condition with light wear. The seats, rear seat, door panels, and trim are well-preserved. The headliner is in good condition but has slightly detached in some areas. The carpets are in excellent condition and come with original custom-fit textile and rubber floor mats. The steering wheel, controls, and buttons are in good shape. All electrical systems and functions appear to be working well, though there is a slight display issue with the radio. The air conditioning worked effectively during the test drive.

  • Exterior condition:

The paintwork appears to be in original condition with minor wear consistent with its age and mileage. It has been preserved well. There are a few stone chips, scratches, and minor scuffs. The glass, trim, lighting details, emblems, and rubber and plastic components are all in similar condition. The wheels show some wear and discoloration. The tires are in good condition. Both the engine bay and trunk are in excellent original condition.

  • General condition:

The Jaguar/Daimler XJ6 has a long history with roots dating back to the 1960s. Although it was in production for six decades with countless upgrades, there is a consistent thread throughout. Beloved from the start and consistently intriguing as a classic car for enthusiasts and collectors, it remains a delightful classic.

Facts about the model

The XJ6 model was launched at the London Motor Show in September 1968 and was an immediate success. With this single model, Jaguar advanced its position dramatically. Several “outdated models” disappeared, and here was a modern, attractive vehicle at a reasonable price. The order books quickly filled up, and once again, the epithet “pace, space, and grace” became synonymous with Jaguar. The following year, a more luxurious version, the Daimler Sovereign, was introduced. Models with a vinyl roof were additionally named Vanden Plas.

In 1972, the XJ12 with a 12-cylinder engine and an extended L version were introduced. The Daimler version also received these attributes the following year. This model was the last to have input from the company’s founder, Sir William Lyons, in its development.

For the 1974 model year, Series II arrived with changes such as a new grille and higher bumpers. Then, in 1980, Series III was introduced with an update from Pininfarina. Though at first glance it didn’t seem significantly different, numerous small adjustments improved space, increased glass area, reduced aerodynamic drag, and gave a more modern image.

On the technical side, the basic concept continued with cast iron but offered improved performance and lower fuel consumption. By 1987, a more comprehensive upgrade was introduced with the new model name XJ40. Along with a new body, recognizable yet updated, the interior was upgraded, featuring the new J-gate shifter and new instrumentation. New engines of 2.9 or 3.6 liters, with aluminum blocks and heads, were introduced, reducing weight by 25-30%.

The X300 model was introduced in 1995 with another facelift, mainly featuring a new front and rear design. Some attributes from earlier models, like dual round headlights, triangular taillights, and a rounder hood, made a return. It continued to offer various six-cylinder and twelve-cylinder engines and different equipment options.

In 1998, the X308 upgrade was introduced, which included a significant change with new V8 engines. The six-cylinder engines were replaced with a 3.2 V8, and the previous twelve-cylinder engine was replaced with a 4.0 V8. A modern five-speed automatic transmission from ZF was also added. The interior was further refined, and technology and safety features were brought into the new millennium. A total of 126,260 units of the model were built from 1998 to 2003.
