Volkswagen Typ2 T2 pickup Baywindow 1700 — 1971

A pleasant, unrestored patina pickup with only three owners and likely only 82 000 driven km. It was off the road for many years but has now been newly inspected and is ready to drive.

"A low-mileage sensation in the driving experience. Worn and patinated body, but no rust damage that resulted in remarks during the inspection. The undercarriage is in good condition, and the interior is fresh."

Description

It was originally delivered in Värmland, and the first owner had it until 1989. The second owner was Thors Traktorservice in Koppom, where it was used for business purposes until 2016, when the vehicle was sold to a collector who stored it for six years. It has recently received service and has historically been rustproofed at various times, stored in a carport, and therefore has fared unusually well. There is a repaired rust damage in the red section on the side, and there has been a dent in the front. The side panels on the bed have rust at the lower edges. Otherwise, the vehicle is healthier than it looks. The most surprising thing is how well it runs. It starts easily, the gears shift smoothly, and the brakes are good. The engine has good power and runs without vibrations and rattles. It's a pleasant vehicle to have and drive as it is, but like all enthusiast vehicles, it prefers storage in a garage, free from moisture, and with careful care.

Condition

  • Mechanical condition:

Surprisingly pleasant to drive with a good mechanical feel. It has recently received brake and engine service, and it feels like it hasn't covered more than the slightly over 80 000 km indicated on the odometer. Documentation is missing, but the inspection history suggests that the mileage should be accurate.

  • Interior condition:

The interior is complete and in excellent condition. The seats were reupholstered a few years ago and still look new and fresh

  • Exterior condition:

Worn paint with several surface rust spots all around. No rust holes in the body, but there is rust in the lower edges of the fold-down side panels. (New ones are available for purchase and probably used ones if you search a bit).

  • General condition:

The car has a worn exterior. Unrestored original condition with the original paint and touch-ups with red primer. It has great potential for improvement since the interior and mechanics are in good shape. On the other hand, it has a raw and fun, original rat-look. It's a matter of taste. Regardless, it's a fun, roadworthy, practical, and robust car just as it is.
