"A cult classic that's rare on the roads today. It needs someone to look after it."

Description

The car was delivered new to Bil & Buss in Gävle AB on November 21, 1969. The first owner was a haulage contractor. A warranty certificate is included with this information. Its previous registration number was X47716. The Variant was equipped with a tow bar in 1970. All three original keys that came with the purchase are available. The haulage contractor took care of the car and had it serviced at a VW dealership every 10,000 kilometers. Numerous service records are available, and on the latest one, the car had driven 61,429 km, dated August 28, 1974.

The haulage contractor had a work accident and could no longer drive the car. It was decommissioned in 1984 and garaged. Brand new original wheel arch trims, sill trims, and a decorative trim for the left rear side window were purchased. At the same time, a new left side mirror was purchased because the one that was mounted was difficult to adjust. These parts are included separately.

Furthermore, the car has VW original accessory wheels from Lemmertz. Four are mounted on the car with summer tires, and a fifth wheel is available to mount a spare tire. VW original center caps for the wheels are available but not mounted. A number of original rims and caps are included.

The current owner bought the Variant from the haulage contractor on May 25, 2006, but he has never used the car. Thus, only the haulage contractor has used the car. Body-wise, it's in good condition, and the interior is also well preserved. The paint is not perfect, and it's possible that the car has been partly repainted.

Condition

  • Mechanical condition:

Not started by BWA since it has been stationary since 1984. It was pulled out onto the lawn for photography. According to the owner, the engine turns over, but we cannot verify that. The car needs a thorough start-up service and a comprehensive review of both the engine and brake system.

  • Interior condition:

The interior is in good condition. The fabric is somewhat dirty and may need freshening up. Nice headliner with a small hole. Well-preserved for its age.

  • Exterior condition:

The paint has a patina with some wear and tear. Some chrome trims are missing from the car, but these are included separately. There are door dings and minor dents on the body as well as on the bumpers. The chrome work is in a condition normal for the age of the car. The undercarriage has an older rust-proofing treatment.

  • General condition:

A seemingly honest car in good starting condition for restoration or, if one wishes, a bit of work to get it in drivable condition.

Facts about the model

When the 411L was released in 1968, it was Volkswagen's first large car. As before, it had an air-cooled engine in the back, but otherwise, it didn't have much in common with the Type 1. The 411, which had a 1.7-liter engine with 76 horsepower, was available both as a two-door and four-door – both with spacious luggage space in the front. Already for the second model year, the 411 was also available as an E-model with electronic injection, which offered significantly better performance. The chassis, with front disc brakes, was self-supporting, lacking both a frame and a stiffening propeller shaft tunnel. The chassis featured McPherson-type struts and a double-jointed axle in the rear. The first cars looked quite odd with their square protruding headlights. However, the interior was highly praised for its spaciousness. The four-door version and the Variant estate sold best in Sweden.
