Description
It is from here that one of the owners bought the car in 1993 and placed it in his VW museum in Pålsboda, outside Örebro. In 2018, the man closed his museum and auctioned off his car collection. At that time, the car had not been used for 33 years, since 1985. Since 2018, the car has been in Täby/Vallentuna and goes by the name "Leonard," and it underwent a thorough inspection by a professional car restorer at the time of purchase.
The brakes and sills were renovated. The engine was serviced, a new battery was installed, new sealing strips around doors and hatches were fitted, a new rubber bellows for the handbrake was added, and a better-used ashtray was purchased from an enthusiast in the USA. The seats were reupholstered while retaining the original upholstery. A new carpet for the interior was ordered from Germany and installed. The car received new tires with white sidewalls, and new bumpers were mounted both front and rear. The car passed its inspection with flying colors in November 2018 and has been roadworthy ever since.
Since then, the car has been sparingly driven on summer trips within Sweden and to nearby ice cream stands. The car's type certificate from 1962 has been preserved, and the first owner's name is still attached to the car in a small decal. In 2019, the circle was completed when the young woman who bought the car new in 1962, now an elderly lady, reunited with her first and only car. It was a cherished reunion that was documented, and she also shared a photo of herself as a young driver in the car.

Facts about the model
The Karmann-Ghia wasn't a high-performance sports car, as it shared its mechanics with the Type 1, the Beetle. However, it was a delightful and beautiful car for leisurely Sunday drives. In 1961, it received a facelift with a larger grille and headlights positioned higher. At the same time, it got larger taillights and wheel arches.
In 1970, the rear lights were made even larger, and in 1972, the slim original bumpers were replaced by the larger ones. In 1974, the model was discontinued in favor of the new Golf-based sports coupe, the Scirocco.
