"A car that has now been refurbished and brought back to life."

Description

Registered for traffic on June 6, 1974. At least from the turn of the millennium until a year ago, the car was in Norrbotten. It's uncertain whether the mileage is accurate or if it has rolled over once. In the past year, the car has received a new paint job in its original color. The interior has been replaced, but the original door panels and trim, as well as the rear seat, are still available and can be included. The front part of the dashboard has been replaced, as well as the parcel shelf and headliner. The carburetor has been overhauled at a Saab workshop, with service including oil, filter, and fluid changes. New radiator and heater hoses. New brakes, brake lines, calipers, discs, and pads. New shock absorbers. New battery and new tires. The car has passed a new inspection and is ready to drive.

Condition

  • Mechanical condition:

Starts and runs well, many parts have been recently replaced with new ones. The underside has not been inspected on a lift, but from what was visible, it appeared to be in decent condition.

  • Interior condition:

The interior is recently replaced and not in its original color, but the light gray color fits nicely. There is wear and details that can be improved if desired. New hradliner and sections in the front and back towards the windows.

  • Exterior condition:

New clean and shiny paint, there was a small ripple/run on the hood - should be possible to polish. There is a missing trim, wheel caps, and details.

  • General condition:

A delightful 99, soon to be fifty years old, and at that time the epitome of Swedish motor technology and safety thinking. It has been partially renovated but can be further complemented and aesthetically enhanced for those who wish to refine this classic.

Facts about the model

The SAAB 99, often referred to as the "broad-shouldered Swede", was introduced in the 1969 model year. Originally a two-door front-wheel drive car with an 80 horsepower engine, the following year saw the introduction of a four-door version and a fuel-injected engine delivering 87 horsepower. Soon after, several enhancements and upgrades were made, spanning from engines to body styles, as well as numerous safety features, which were praised and well-received.

For the 1974 model year, the standard models boasted a 2.0 L engine with 95 horsepower. New high-back seats with integrated head restraints featuring holes for optional cushion placement were introduced. Other updates included a new steering wheel, improved heating and ventilation, and a headrest ramp on the backseat equipped with four defrost vents — although an electrically heated rear window wasn't yet present. 1974 also saw the introduction of new door locks and seat belts. In Sweden, Saab achieved great success, selling a total of 41,700 cars that year. Overall, 588,643 units of the SAAB 99 model were sold.

There were also more powerful engine variants, such as the EMS and LE. The EMS, in particular, was marketed as a sporty family car equipped with various sporty accessories. Then, in 1976, came a major announcement: Saab unveiled plans for a turbocharged engine. Those were the days...
